You really feel awful for her husband, his wife, and all their kids. But I also think it's going to be really fascinating to watch how the Patriots' PR and marketing and community affairs departments handle this.
There's such a small set of athletes who are icons with a team and then come back to coach that team with a lot of success. Vrabel won 3 titles with the Patriots and is on their 50th Anniversary team, their all 2000s team, etc. Finally gets the head coach job at NE and takes them to the big game and wins coach of the year.
Are there any examples of an absolute legend player / coach who then has an incident like this . Only one I can think of is Pete Rose, and he was a much more black & white case because he broke explicit rules of baseball.
Obviously, Vrabel has the weekly call in show like all head coaches. But I'd imagine before last month, he was a highly-sought after speaker in the New England area. He has a non-profit with two OSU teammates about reading and "being positive role models" for kids. I'm sure he has been previously very visible in the community.
Plus, the PR and media team are now going to have to start every single press conference he does by warning the media to not ask certain questions even though the organization will never once mention anything about the subject. But people are still going to ask those questions, even if they take the hit for it and get their credentials revoked.
Reading Vrabel's bio, his kids are both grown and out of the house. Obviously, Russini's are young, and that really makes her look awful. I don't think she'll work in visible media again. She'll need to go get a faceless job in some friend's company that pays you 6 figures to not be seen by the public.
And if you don't remember her for 2015, well there's this.
