Has anybody else read this book? I read it over the weekend and it was fantastic. I'd recommend it for anybody who enjoys video games or grew up in the 80s

Get on the list for this one from your library, great book. Just under 400 pages, and reads pretty quickly

This book is amazing, read it two summers ago and then re-read it for the paperback release and Cline's contest for the delorian last summer.

Definite must read IMO

Yep, I thought it was awesome. Definitely a must if you grew up in the 80s and like sci-fi books. I'll have to read it again sometime. But I don't read as fast as some of you though... OP read it in a weekend, that's crazy fast compared to me!

It was a fast read for me as well. I guess growing up in the 80s helped lol.

I only picked up on a handful of the 80s references and still loved the book. Oh how I wish he had planned it into a series.

The production of the audio book with Wil Wheaton narrating is awesome as well. One of the few ones I can re-listen to multiple times.

Could be an incredible movie. Hopefully they get the rights to those 80 flicks that he enters in the game so we can see the protagonist inside of Ferris Buehler.

But this should be good either way. Great book. I'll have to read it again soon. Hope they don't rush it from scene to scene like they did Enders Game. Make the movie longer if you have to.

Agreed. Hadn't heard of it until earlier this year and listened to it on Audible a few months ago on my long commute. It was one of those that I was almost looking forward to the drive just to hear more.

I cant wait for his next book Armada which comes out in july

quote:
t's just another day of high school for Zack Lightman. He's daydreaming through another boring math class, with just one more month to go until graduation and freedomif he can make it that long without getting suspended again.

Then he glances out his classroom window and spots the flying saucer.

At first, Zack thinks he's going crazy. A minute later, he's sure of it. Because the UFO he's staring at is straight out of the videogame he plays every night, a hugely popular online flight simulator called Armadain which gamers just happen to be protecting the earth from alien invaders.

But what Zack's seeing is all too real. And his skillsas well as those of millions of gamers across the worldare going to be needed to save the earth from what's about to befall it.

Yet even as he and his new comrades scramble to prepare for the alien onslaught, Zack can't help thinking of all the science-fiction books, TV shows, and movies he grew up reading and watching, and wonder: Doesn't something about this scenario seem a little too familiar?

I saw my 11 year old son playing Meta Quest a few weeks ago while he was streaming it on the TV and somehow recalled back to Ready Player One, so i recommended a movie night. My wife, who is in education, encouraged me to instead order him the book and have him read that first. He started during the freeze and finished it earlier this week soooo.

Tonight we made homemade pizzas and had a movie night as a family and he was absolutely blown away with how awesome it was. Spielberg really is the greatest storyteller of our time.

I have taken him to the theater to see several movies, but nothing captured the joy of film for him like this movie did tonight at home. Great film.

We ordered 3 copies of Ready Player Two and there is speculation that a sequel is in the development phase even though it might be a year or two before it comes out.

It was a proud dad moment to see him so excited and really brought me back to how I felt when I saw the original Jurassic Park.

Was Armada any good? I also thought his next book after Ready Player Two might be Ender's Game, even though the book was much better than the movie in my opinion.

Edit: After I read the synopsis of Armada, it seems very similar to Ender's Game.

I personally liked Armada more than Ready Player Two. But there are those that don't care for either... Pretty much an impossible task to meet expectations after RP1 which was a masterpiece.

Enders Game is an absolutely fantastic book, I've read it multiple times. The movie didn't quite do it justice, but that's mostly because the pacing was off. Really needed another 30 min - hour to develope the plot and characters. But it was well done enough that I've watched it a few times.

I read Ender's Game cover to cover one time in high school when I was assigned Saturday detention.

I think that's the only book I have read in one sitting.

I will second Armada. I think it unfairly gets a bad wrap. RP2 is pretty rough.

On the plus side, if you do Armada next, you can watch The Last Starfighter as the the "movie" version.

I also think you can do Project Hail Mary as well, with the movie coming soon.

11 is probably a little too young for Neuromancer and Snow Crash.

Going in kinda a different direction, the Reckoners series (starting with Steelheart) by Sanderson is another good YA-ish series about if Superheroes were real.

Sanderson's Skyward YA series is also great for teens and adults alike.

And if you are going to read Ender's Game, you should read Ender's Shadow too. Same story from Bean's POV.

Snow crash was hard to get through. Had to force myself to finish it, but I'm glad I did. I thought the ending tied things together well.
