What teams can you pick?
I've seen red, blue, yellow here in college station. Red seems to be the biggest on in town.

South College Station should have its own color and our pokemon should automatically attack any students who come past Rock Prairie

It's only red, blue, and yellow. One for each of the legendary birds. I don't remember what the team names are, something that has nothing to do with Pokemon.
I actually really like the idea of students vs locals
It's cool, because when someone is battling at a gym, you can see explosions, rocks, and lightning effects on the platform.
Wonder if Ingress will affect the color choice people make. Being blue, I will probably go with the same. But green team players will get divided into 3 other colors.
The demographics may be different enough for PokeGo for it to not matter. But, I do know plenty of Ingress Resistance (blue) players will be picking the same color.

Does it give you any sort of sense of how many people are on each team when you pick?

I just hit level 5. I think I have to go to a gym to choose?
so are the servers being "down" for everyone? Or is it a login issue and i just keep trying till it lets me in?
After playing this app game over a day now, it is very fun! My hometown has a hiking trail where I jog twice a day and so far I've found and caught a bunch of different kinds of Pokemon there! Also, can anyone post the entire map of the on campus from the app? I'd like to know what I can expect when I come back to TAMU this fall.
It's loaded. There are 6 gyms on campus. And about 40 Blue points of interest at minimum. One gym is the clock tower, one is Reed arena. The baseball field has like 5 blue points by itself.
Are any of y'all far away from CS? What types of Pokemon have you seen? I'm seen mostly grass so far.
Out in Lubbock growlithe, paras, sandshrew, graveler, tauros, abra. It's barely worked so could be some others as well.

Very different than CS. Lots of poison types at night, but mostly bird/flying types here in CS during the day
That's pretty cool actually. I'm surprised Kyle Field isn't a gym.
There's the standard Pidgey and Ratatta as well. I got to play for about 10 minutes this morning and a little last night but the rest of the time it hasn't worked.

Could you imagine the amount of time you'd have to dedicate to it to stay as gym leader? The aggie Mecca of Pokemon gyms

I'm in Galveston for the week and picked up spearow, eevee, magikarp, rattata, weedle, venonat, and bulbasaur in the little neighborhood we are staying in. I'm a complete pokemon noob so I don't know if that's good or not. There are two gyms right down the road, but I'm only level 3 so far. This is kinda fun so far, but I'm ready to do battle.
It is a fun idea but it definitely needs some work. While walking around at work tonight I can barely get it to detect I'm moving whether I use wifi or cellular network. Kept saying gps signal lost.
It's also a massive battery drain on my 6s.

The app is a huge battery destroyer. 60% in less than 2 hours.
My family is hooked. Kids and I downloaded it last night but my neighborhood has crap pokemon so we branched out and found better ones.
My sister had an Ivysaur at her feet but it shrugged off 20 pokeballs before walking away.
We met so many people last night. One apartment complex had a lure going and it brought people from all over to catch wild pokemon.

This game has a lot of potential.
If they can implement at Least the same battle system as the normal Pokemon games, that would be a huge improvement.

So far this game has SUCKED in Austin. I've made it to Level 3 in 2 days but the gyms and stores are out in the suburbs. NOTHING downtown where I work. I even walked around the Capitol building (only place downtown with grass) during my lunch yesterday and got nothing except server error issues). Apparently there's nothing on the tu campus either.
Hopefully they do something about it soon. Guess I'm doing some Sunday driving this weekend.

On a side note i almost got lost in my hospital trying to find a way to the gym last night. Fun stuff.
I just really hope the location accuracy and battery drain massively improves. It is really rough when you are walking around for 30 minutes and it doesn't pick up any of your movement and it only tracks like 0.5 km for your egg incubator instead of the 3-4 you walked.

Man, I was just winding down Ingress and removing that addiction. Thanks Niantic.
I stopped by the gym near my house on the way to work this morning to try to take it, but the servers weren't registering my win for some reason. I tried like 5 times to no avail. Maybe it'll work this afternoon.
I like how the game made it so that you can't rack up mileage by driving around. If you're moving too fast it doesn't count it.

This will make me stay in shape. I have to run a mile through the woods to get to the gym. It at an intersection of 2 trails. Time to start running more.
My brother and I went for a walk yesterday. We have never even considered taking a walk. WTF is going on.
A friend of mine said Evans Library was full of Pokemon. Looks like I'm gonna "study" a lot more this semester
I would imagine this would be really fun if you were still at A&M in the dorms or something.
