Just got teased with that email this morning. Had previously signed up for info with a different email address and have everything fed into one app. Said equipment was ready to order in my area and thought it was for actually ordering service, not putting down another deposit.

Was wondering why they had never sent me an email about the deposit opportunity.

If you look at this real time view of the satellites going by. You would most likely not get service when there are no rings on your location. You can see why the people up North don't have outages too.

Also, I believe yellow are not active.

I just saw a big gap in coverage over East and Central Texas. So there will definitely be outages. They need another band of satellites

It should be better since it has a number of options in terms of satellites, so it can keep jumping to the one with the best signal unlike satellite TV that is solely focused on a single sat. Doesn't mean Starlink won't take a performance hit during heavy rain, but it should handle it better.

Just to add on, the beta testers seem to get the biggest drop from accumulated snow on the dish. The dish does have a heater to melt it away.

Beta signup or $99 preorder? They're two separate things.

Beta signup means you get equipment in ~2 weeks. $99 preorder means mid-late 2021 for equipment

An actual Beta sign up or the offer to pre-order for when it becomes available?

I put down $99 this morning. Anxious to see how this works. Currently on Rise with 8 down sometimes, but most often it's 5 down. I read in the FAQ's that you could get a roof mount in "my account" but I don't see anything yet. I assume whenever I'm able to purchase, I'll get that option.

Should be another launch at 8:37 tonight. I'm hoping that with each launch it gets closer and closer to my area. I was able to pre-order the minute it opened up by shear luck a while back. Can't wait to get away from att dsl.

Scrubbed til tomorrow

Even though I started the thread I was still not able to put down my deposit until last week. Said it will be in my area in Alaska in 2022. Guess I didn't make one of the early beta testers as I was hoping for. Can't wait to have another internet option here as it's really expensive for any service that offers a "high speedish" connection and provide unlimited data.

I think there are 2 more launches of 60 satellites each this week so hopefully they keep up that schedule and we continue to see them expand service!

No one in Texas is using it since it isn't available here yet. You're looking at a few months still before the beta is available (if selected) and 6+ months for general availability.

North Oklahoma is as far South as it has gone so far 36.9 parallel.

As of yesterday, officially into Texas now in the panhandle and as far south as 33.7 degrees Lat in Arizona. HUGE jump for those of us waiting here in Texas

In Blanco County, TX...hope we see it by the end of 2021. The fixed wireless out here leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm in Colorado in the mountains and this is going to be a game changer. I have DSL and Viasat both of which are terrible. Still waiting for the email.

For those of you who have this service, how is it? What kind of speeds (both up and down) are your consistently pulling?

I'm on a fixed wireless solution right now getting about 50 down and 15 up. Hoping this can be a better solution for me.

Most of us are too far South to have it yet, but if you go to YouTube and search there are a bunch of people testing the speeds.

It seems to average a little over 100Mbps with about 20 up and a ping of about 50. I've seen as high as 350 down and as low as about 40 down, and I've seen the ping as low as 25 and as high as about 85. There are also periods of no service if they haven't blanketed the area. Some people have more than 20 minutes a day without service.

Lowest latitude in Texas is Sherman right now. Hope they make another big push south soon, but we will see.

Reading online it's getting close! Maybe by end of summer we can be using it.
