Thanks for the info! We will see. I am kinda desperate so went ahead and ordered. Worst case I'll transfer service address when my other order opens up.

I'll report back here when it comes in.

I'll be curious if it works. Mine is shipping to me in CS, so I'm at least going to boot it up and see what happens. I don't expect it to work since the service address is 400 miles away and there are no available spots in Brazos County.

Just got an email, purchase price increasing from $499 to $599, $549 if you already have a deposit. Monthly price going from $99 to $110. Increase blamed on inflation.

Yeah still worth it, but they've had my deposit for 14 months now. Feel like that should be worth more.

You can't avoid inflation - even in space!

I pay $75 with a local fiber provider for 500 Mbps with no equipment costs.

Sell me on why StarLink is better for me when it's more expensive for slower speeds.

I'm sure everyone would prefer this option, but you obviously aren't the Starlink target customer. It's for folks like myself who live in a rural area with no fiber. With limited options like satellite or point to point wireless, Starlink is a nobrainer. I currently pay $100/month for 30Mbps down and 10Mbps up.

Yeah that's what I figured. My BIL lives in a rural area and pays something like $80 for 15 Mbps so yeah StarLink would be great for him. Going to have him sign up.

Because it's not intended for you. It's targeting people like me who live in the sticks and can either use Hughesnet or use a WISP with max speeds of 15 Mbps down 3 Mbps up.

The roll out has been painful, slow, and the current speeds are disappointing. The network sounded like a dream when it came out, but lately with price increases and the network performance lagging what it used to be, it may have just priced me out.

When I signed up for the beta in 2020 3 down and 1 up was all I could get. Now I have two internets in the house regularly getting over 25/5. Neither one is 100% reliable, but together one is always working and they cost less than StarLink alone.

It's going to be a tough decision if they get around to me anytime soon.

The bigger issue imo, is bandwidth. The traditional sat based internet services have very low bandwidth limitations. My brother was maxing out his Hughes Net and Verizon hot spot data every month. He's thrilled with the Starlink setup so far.

What performance disappointments are you hearing of? At least with everything I've seen on here, people seem very happy with Starlink's performance, especially considering their alternatives (or lack thereof).

It may be due to fixable issues, but I noticed a big uptick in slow speed posts in the subreddit. Some were saying that bandwidth was going down as more people got on. If I go StarLink, I want 150+ to be pretty constant. Hearing issues with streaming and 30ish down has me worried.

I've never tested at less than 150 mbps since I've had SL service. I've had a little bit of blurring while streaming YTTV, but nothing like before with WISP. I also place some of that blame on my TV itself, which is not relevant to your concern. My point is that speedtests for me have been very consistent, testing between 150-215 mbps down.

Dish arriving this saturday and was able to get assigned to a cell about 40 miles from here. Will report back here ASAP when the dish arrives in case anyone else wants to take a similar approach as me.

Well, I blame you for this. At lunch today, I noticed it was slow and I speed tested at 30 Mbps down. That was the first time I've tested that low.

For those wondering, I was able to get a service address 45 miles from my house and it is working great so far!

Had one of my customers in north Washington county get theirs in last month. They asked me to hook it up temporarily. Sat it on the sidewalk to the north let it setup. Out of the box we were at 140 down and 8ish up.

Starlink powered by solar in Far West Texas. A few brief outages but speeds are more than enough for streaming or a Teams video call. Our node probably isn't that crowded though.

We've been on Starlink for about 2 weeks now. Very happy with the speed, have experienced a couple of outages, need to play around with position to get bet upload speed. One was overnight and not particularly a problem, although we are very remote and don't have phone service unless on wifi. The other one was in the middle of the work day and pissed the wife off quite a bit.

I have a roof mount and the Ethernet adaptor on order. Very annoying to not have the Ethernet port on it to begin with because I'm currently sitting with 2 Wyze cameras that don't function.

Does anyone know if you can do month-to-month with the service? My use case is to enable it for about 4 months a year but not sure this is feasible.

Thanks.

They have a maximum load for each cell and back fill cancellations. You could lose your spot when cancelling service.

I've been having a lot of issues with mine the past week. Loss of signal, slower speeds (haven't gotten more than around 76 mbps but mostly it's in the 15-30 range). Right now, mine dish is in the backyard with really no obstructions. I'm waiting for the part to attach it to the roofline, maybe that will help.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Occasionally, seemingly mid morning, ours seems to slow way down (anecdotally, by my WFH wife). Resetting the router seems to fix.

Portability is here for a fee. I'm not moving mine around so I don't care but if I was camping or hunting a lot I don't think $25 / month isn't a huge deal but I hadn't heard of them charging for this before I got the email.

You weren't supposed to do it before. From what I have read, sometimes it worked and sometimes it made the signal go a bit weird, but it normally got a signal.

I've been planning to use it at my tailgate for football. I hope 5.5 miles as the crow flies does not add $25/month for me. I guess we will see...
