Tried searching for a previous thread, but didn't see one.

Does anyone use and have an opinion on T Mobile's Wireless Home Internet? I'm looking to leave ATT and am interested in the supposed ease of use of T Mobile.

TIA

Haven't used it, but from what I have heard it is good if you aren't a heavy user (gaming).

We have it and it's great. Really fast speeds. Will depend on your location whether available or not.If they still have the 15 day trial period, get it to try before quitting AT&T.

I live in rural Lavaca county and have been using Starlink for the past 13 months. Starlink has been cutting speeds for the past 6 months and just recently raised their rates to us rural folks. I was getting speeds easily over 100-150 6 months ago and now get 35-45.

T mobile home internet became available in my area recently so I picked one up to try last week. I figured I could try it for free for 2 weeks and then decide what to do. Set up was a breeze and I am technology challenged. Speeds are great and run routinely from 180-350.

I still like Starlink but for the difference in price ($120/mo vs $30/mo) I will most likely will say goodbye to Starlink. You get the T Mobile home internet for 30/mo if you have a Magenta Max plan.

I did not know this, and it's what was holding me back from ditching ATT for T-Mobile. ATT just raised my rates, so I think I'm going to bolt. I just dread the hour+ on the phone it's gonna take to get my service disconnected.

This. It all depends on location. I work in construction and i've gotten a couple of these for jobsite internet. We have a job on the south side of Corpus and the T-Mobile people told me they have great coverage at our address and their router should work very well. It doesn't work at all..

We have another one that they told us was right on the edge of their coverage area. When we can get a signal, it can get up to ~500mbps, but if any bad weather or anything comes through, it shuts down. I think that one would benefit from adding an external antenna, i just haven't tried it yet.

Anyways my point is, if it works, it's great. If it's giving you problems, don't be shy to ship it back. T-Mobile has been great to work with in my experience.

I live in a suburb of Houston, tried it and it sucked. The reception was very poor at my house and inconsistent.

It's very dependent on location. I was really rooting for it because of the price.

When I did my two week trial I set it up, gave it the same name and password as our wifi and switched without telling the family. It was less than an hour before every single person in the house started complaining about the internet. I switched back and then a few days later tried it again and the same result, the family noticed instantly.

I picked it up on Sunday hoping it can replace Starlink, which was mentioned above, price is increasing and speeds decreasing. So far, I've been impressed. I brought to our place in Matagorda on Thursday and it has performed well here also.

My starlink in Lavaca County is slowing down pretty significantly too. I used Nomad internet for a while but it was unreliable. Had to keep getting a new sim from them. I'd love to try T-Mobile.

All Starlink Residential plans are slowing down across the board. They cut speeds for residential and business plans too. For residential they now show expected speeds of 20-100. They have added RV, Maritime and Aviation in the last year and I suspect they just don't have enough satellites to meet the current demand. Their speed and data is still better than what I can get with Hughes Net and/or Viasat. I just don't have many other choices where I live. What got me though was their raising prices to us rural folks and lowering the prices for others. Paying more for less just got under my skin.

I hope T Mobile works out long term but I suspect their speeds will drop over time as well. It is not just about the speed. But at least it is month to month and they won't raise my rates.

I've had T-Mobile for a year. It started as a better option to the snail paced speeds my cable company was providing. Then, it got worse, then better. Then, a new cell tower was installed near my house and it's been awesome since. I get anywhere from 250-750 down, and 20-80 up. Usually, it will be about 400 down and 30 up.

I had it for awhile, and it was great. Between 180-200 up, 15-20 down. Then TMO started some never-ending repair on the tower closest and it would be down for a day and a half every week in January and February. Called and repeatedly griped and all they would tell me was there's an open ticket on the tower near me with no timeline to fix it.

As I have TMO for phone also, this was leaving me dead in the water 100%. I'd have to go outside to use my phone with no bar or even edge data.

Dropped them and went with faster fiber that slightly more expensive but reliable.

In short, if you live close to a tower it's great until the tower is down with no expectation of service returning.

Yep, this is my biggest concern. We have TMobile for cellular phone service as well. If our current ATT home internet service gets slow or goes down, at least l am able to jump on my TMobile Hotspot for a while. If we go all in with TMobile and a tower goes down, I'd be in the same boat with no service.

Thanks for everyone's responses.

We had it for a few months. It worked but not well. We didn't have the signal.

I ended up putting it at the far end of the house in the garage and using a mesh system to get it to the rest of the house. We got about 2 bars. Got 10-15 MBPS. You could use the internet but not do a lot else.

We got rid of it when Starlink became available.

I think it would work pretty well if you've got the signal.

I researched it and this was the most common answer I came across as well. Depends on location, where towers are etc., and how many users are in the area. My neighborhood was at the max, so I was put on the waitlist. And talking to some neighbors, they weren't happy with the speed. They'd noticed a decline over the last few months.

We still dropped AT&T because their pricing got asinine. But went with Xfinity. Real perk of Xfinity is if you can switch your phones. If you have Xfinity home internet, you can get two mobile phones for like $60 total/month....when we were paying around $150 w/ AT&T.

Bump!

Just got notified that T-Mobile home internet is available in my burb. Will they provide more than one router to ensure coverage of the entire house? I just purchased an Orbi mesh system for my existing cable internet service (modem and router), and coverage has been great. However, not sure if I would have to purchase another mesh system.....

Your Orbi will plug right into the T-Mobile system. I've used them for almost 3 years now. It goes out for a few seconds every couple of weeks, but I'm happy overall.

Download speeds are good, upload is mediocre. I can get 600 down, 30-40 up when it's good. 300 down and 8 up when it's slow.

That said, I can work and stream on multiple TVs and never have issues.

We were early adopters and it was great until it wasn't.

During 2021 when we were still mostly working from home, we had a tower issue near us, and when that happened, we were without mobile data (phone) and Internet for a while. We were having to drive to McDonalds or Chick Fil A to try to get work done. We also couldn't receive phone calls. We switched our Internet to Xfinity/Comcast. It is significantly more, so I often think about going back, but that was such a bad experience, that I can't quite pull the trigger to do that again.
