Anyone else going to be playing this? It's been over 20 years since the last Baldur's Gate game and Larian studios is creating this sequel.

Larian is mostly known for their old-school style CRPG series Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 which are both amazing. The game play for those lets you do a lot of outside the box style problem solving to encounters and it sounds like it'll be the same for this one.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been in early access since October 2020 with a full release on August 3rd. It'll come to PS5 in September 2023 and is still pending an Xbox release while they work out some technical issues with that platform.

You can also have sex with a druid shapeshifted into a bear for those of you who may be on the fence.

Ive owned Divinity: Original Sin 2 for almost 2 years and every time I start a game, I lose interest and give up.

Ive tried to get into it now about 6-8 times and It never catches on for me for some reason.

Yeah, I understand that. Divinity: Original Sin 2 took a minute to pick up for me, but a lot of these games slog a bit in the beginning while your characters are low level. Sounds like they're augmenting that with a secondary leveling system that's a mindflayer tadpole in your brain that augments your abilities. The story for this one sounds like something I'll be more interested in than Divinity as well.

I'm excited for this one, but the Baldur's Gate series, Divinity: Original Sin, and even the Zelda games now a days are suffering from being too much video game for a single player game.

The only game I've ever finished like this one was Neverwinter Nights. Hopefully I actually finish this one.

I probably won't even though it sounds interesting. Xbox release is TBD and I'm not really into turn based combat. Tried divinity original sin as well and couldn't really get into it.

I'll be playing starting after work tomorrow. Let's see if I can get main story complete before Starfield release.

This game looks really good and I want to try it out, but I'm afraid I would not enjoy the turn based aspect of it and would just waste my money.

I've owned it since it came out in early access but I've never even finished what was in early access probably mainly because there wasn't a paladin yet. When they released the paladin there were too many other games I was playing so didn't get to it.

I'll play it, maybe not starting tomorrow though!

Loved the original baldurs gate games. Shame this one isn't live action though. Interested to see how it reviews.

Like with real people? I'm confused.

I will absolutely be playing this. CRPG's are my weakness. I finished the other Larian games and the original Baldur's Gate and it's siblings. BG I is what hooked me into gaming, permanently. That was a life-changing experience for me as dumb as that sounds.

I will have to finish Skyrim again first though. This is the only time I've ever played through a second time with an RPG.

I wonder if mages are going to be as OP in BG3 as they were in BG2.

Initial impressions out the gate are a lot of "game of the year" type talk and making it sound like this is one of those Mass Effect/Witcher 3/Skyrim "raise the bar" type of games. There are allegedly 17,000 different iterations on the ending, so that already makes it a bit more interesting than Mass Effect...

Larian Studios have come out saying that this cannot be considered the new standard seeing how Larian has almost two decades worth of experience making these types of games and the studio size makes it unfair to other developers.

I'm excited to spend over an hour this evening just trying to make my character.

Hell yeah

So far I've done everything I dabbled with in Early Access (except skipping cutscenes and dialogue) but it's running a lot better for me. There's going to be so much game here, hopefully in a good way.

You do hit the ground running a lot faster than you did in Divinity 2 so that's good.

I've played a couple hours so far, never did EA, and my little party with my Warlock main character are getting rocked. Been years since I've played one of these and am going to have to figure out what spells are actually worthwhile. Doesn't help my party at the moment is my Warlock, the cleric, rogue, and wizard.

Same. Looks great, but the combat and gameplay look rough

Maybe you are getting rocked because you have no grunts? That group seems very unbalanced.

I ended up playing most of the afternoon lol

D&D is so luck based when you are low level… encounters really come down to a lucky roll of the dice in a lot of cases.

I'm playing a paladin and have talked my way out of a lot of fights, so that's helped hah.

Enjoying the game much more than I thought I would.

I'm a half-elf paladin.

Same here. I could never make it much further than act 2 of divinity sin 2, whereas I don't want to put this game down.

I am worried that if I do have to put the game down for a bit, I'm never coming back to it. I love this type of game but it is a lot... And really hard to find your way back after any extended break.

I went the utility mage route and I'm finding out that warriors seem a whole heck of a lot stronger.

No doubt it was an unbalanced group... it's been a hot minute since I last played a game like this and I should have explored a bit more until I found the Fighter companion. I ended up going a different route into this area and completed the objective by not even having to fight the group that caused me so many issues. I also found the Fighter and have a better rounded group.

This might be the game that forces me to finally upgrade my rig and buy a game at full price. My PC is 7 years old so I absolutely need to upgrade some components.

This game cracks me up. I hit the wrong lever when rescuing someone (not being specific so I don't spoil anything), so it showed a quick cut scene of the guy being thrown very far to his death. I hope his side quest wasn't going to give me something good.

I haven't reached this just yet, I don't think.

But, in a similar vein, I think the hardest I've laughed thus far is when you meet a certain human character in the goblin camp who has an idea on how to remove the parasite. The dialogue and scenes after you talk to him in camp are absolutely hilarious; I saved before talking to him just to see how far the whole thing goes but I just couldn't stop laughing. Hopefully that isn't too big of a spoiler.

Related....is this playable with a controller? Using K&M actually might be a showstopper for me because I have massive ergonomic and tendinitis issues with that. Damn my body.

I've heard there are solutions for that sort of thing. A co-worker of mine uses a vertically oriented mouse (palm facing to the side instead of down, almost like holding a joystick) and a keyboard tray that has a slight down angle.

About 2 hours into it on a Steam Deck and not having any trouble using a controller. I played Divinity 2 on my PS4 and the controller wasn't an issue there either, and the game play very similarly

And just like that the Hulu packages go up which means it's now more expensive than YTTV starting October. Was going to change at end of month but now I may stay put. Will need to rerun math. Probably gonna cancel Netflix at this point to offset since I do t watch it much.

Plus I'm sure YTTV will follow suit.

Disney is also increasing the price of Hulu + Live TV with ads to $76.99 from $69.99 per month. The commercial-free Hulu + Live TV will jump to $89.99 per month from $82.99 per month.

There are. Different mouse might help but I can't really do one of those keyboard trays with my setup. I had one back in the day at work and it was badass. They ultimately removed all of them when they swapped everyone to sit-stand desks. And what we had were heavy duty and not one of these cheapo trays either. You could set the angle and it would stay.

I didn't know inflation had already made it all the way to Baldur's Gate. Know I know to hoard my gold until I reach there.
