I'd like to help future proof a house that I'm building for internet (CAT6) and other "tech" related wiring. I have the walls all down to studs and will be spraying in open cell foam insulation, so this will be a lot easier to do now versus later. I'm also a fan of "buy once, cry once".

What would y'all recommend for conduit for a situation like this? Material and size? These are two that I was considering:

Thank you!

Go with the orange stuff. 1-1/2 is plenty big. It will also be easier to fish thorough walls than the rigid stuff.

Once installed, tie a small plastic grocery bag to the end of a pull string and suck it through the other end with a vacuum.

Watch the sharp bends! If you put anything approaching a 90 degree bend in your run, it can still be a nightmare to pull HDMI cable through without damaging it.

An inch and a half is more space than you should need. Just keep in mind, once you pull a few cables through it, pulling more is always going to be more difficult.

Make sure you have pullstring in the innerduct. The orange innerduct is what you need, but I believe the stuff we buy from our distributor already has the jetline/pull string in it. You'll want to make sure you always have pullstring in there to pull something else through: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-1-8-in-Width-x-6-500-ft-Length-Strength-Power-Fish-Pull-Line-in-a-Bucket-Blue-Tracer-PL232B/310839553

Yep - if you use the pullstring to pull new cables, send another pullstring with those cables so you don't get them to the end and leave yourself with no pullstring for future wires.

For low voltage wiring, everything these people have said is right. Smurf tube is what you want (the orange stuff you listed also comes in blue).

Cat 6 is probably going to cover what you need for a really really long time. With 1-1/2" conduit you shouldn't have any trouble pulling terminated HDMI cables.

Agree with everything posted above. You may consider pulling CAT6a to future proof for 10Gb, though it's probably overkill, as once you have conduit and runs it's pretty easy to replace an existing cable. It's about 30-40% more expensive in bulk

Thanks y'all! Great info. I wouldn't have done the pull string with it.

I used the orange stuff and put the biggest you can get away with. I only fish cables I need. In 20 years I've never needed more than one cat6 or 1 hdmi. But, I fish 3-4 pull strings through and leave them hanging just in case.

Another good idea from folks who are much more experienced at this than I am. I would not have even thought to pull one string before but now I'm gonna do like three lol.

One extra is probably fine as long as you remember to pull a new one through with whatever cable you pull through. The ln you have one ready.

And don't have more than 360 degrees worth of bends total in a run.
