iPhone App Time Restrictions

How long do you want to ignore this user?

I want to block social media apps like instagram and facebook on my phone during the week. Essentially from Sunday around 8 pm to Friday afternoon.

I downloaded the Freedom app and it worked well last week w/ the trial, but I don't think I need to pay $50 or whatever their yearly fee was to do this.

So this week I've tried it through the built in iPhone screen time settings. What I've done is schedule downtime from 8 pm-11:59 pm Sunday, 12am - 11:59 pm M-Th, and 12 am - 7 pm Friday. I then went into the "Always allowed" setting and set every app but the few I want to block as always allowed.

This is obviously not what it's meant for but seems to have worked. The biggest annoyance is I don't think you can set Safari to always allowed so every web page brings up a prompt to ignore downtime.

The app limits setting in Screen time seems like it could work for setting it to 0 minutes on the weekdays but doesn't really allow to just block apps during certain times. So not sure how Sunday and Friday would work.

Am I missing something with Safari in downtime or any other suggestions?

Yeah ive run into this issue as well, you cant whitelist/blacklist sites within safari using downtime. there are other tools you can use in conjunction, but its kinda cliunky

Under app limits you can set up sites you want blacklisted, but you cant set it to off, but to 1 minute a day.

under content & privacy restrictions you can set it up so that you just have a big whitelist for websites (Store, web, siri & game center content > Web content > Only approved websites). it takes a while to get it setup but you can build a good sized whitelist that lets you get stuff done and avoid distractions (lookin at you, texags). i also use a site called password-locker.com that helps you setup and retrieve Screentime passwords without you being able to easily remember the PIN and then you can whitelist stuff on the fly if something new comes up.
