I have my PC set to install the early releases for Windows and the last one included Windows Recall. I remember vaguely it being a feature when the Co Pilot + PC's first came out but they put a hold on the rollout for it. What possible use does recall have to normal users? From my understanding it takes screen shots of your computer constantly and you can go back to look at them and possibly go back to that state in your computer? I don't understand the point or why anyone would want this feature

I haven't activated it and don't plan on it. I'm trying to figure out what the pitch for this feature is.

This is the basic pitch on their site:

Quote:

Recall was introduced earlier this year, with the ability to enable you to quickly find and jump back into what you have seen before on your PC. You can use an explorable timeline to find the content you remember seeing before. You can also use semantic powered search and just describe how you remember something and Recall will retrieve the moment you saw it. Any photo, link, or message can be a fresh point to continue from.

Your mileage may vary, but it doesn't seem to be a hugely compelling feature to me. Add to that pretty widespread concerns about security and it's not anything I'm interested in. While it putatively has filters for sensitive information (banking info, passwords, etc.), it's not clear whether that filtering is foolproof (I tend to doubt it). Additionally, if corporate or government accounts are using Recall, those saved datasets could be subject to discovery or public records requests.

I thought for sure they meant system snapshots so you could roll back to an earlier state on your system. Nope, seems to be literally just screenshots...

So much AI stuff seems to be a solution looking for a problem..
