Can't believe this thread hadn't been started yet -

From Embark Studios (The Finals) - this is a PVE & PVP Extraction Shooter (Think Tarkov, but for employed people). Played the server slam with some PointsMatter(!) buddies. Comes out Thursday, Oct 30. Crossplay enabled. See you topside, Raiders!

Steam: crowbar

I think I'm gonna get it for Xbox. I watched several gameplay videos.

This might be the next big online game to follow PUBG, Fortnite, Apex, Warzone, and Helldivers 2.

Seems well optimized for Proton, I may get on Steam instead of Xbox to use between the Deck and my PC.

Hearing it is a good mix of Escape from Tarkov and Helldivers 2. Looking forward to trying it out.

It's wild out there topside! Got to level 10 last night - unlocked all the work benches in my den. Picked up an Anvil in the wild and upgraded it several times and added some attachments. Buried City is a pretty map, only got to explore it sparingly though.

Proximity chat is your friend - don't be scared to use it and talk strat with your fellow raiders. Had a few funny encounters - but also got to keep your head on a swivel, some dudes shoot first and ask questions never.

Gameplay is great, graphics are amazing, it's so much fun using proximity chat. For only 40 bucks, this was such an easy buy for me. Think I will be playing this game for years.

Agree - this is a great introduction into extraction shooters for newbies.

Quick tips:
  • Free load is your friend starting out. If you extract, be sure to trade in your free augment at the clinic
  • Solos: much more quest friendly. Prox chat or use your emote wheel to chill otherwise tense interactions
  • Duos/Trios: From what I've noticed - if you run duos and NOT fill, you're going to run into other 3 stack squads. Squad raids feel much more unforgiving. Shoot first, ask questions ****ing never
  • Skill Tree! Don't forget to spend those. Stamina is key. Crafting topside (survival) also very beneficial
  • Scrappy / workbenches: Don't forget to visit scrappy often. He'll bring back some basic essentials after every raid
  • Stash storage: if you're not saving for an upgrade - sell your stuff and expand your stash quickly. You'll need it.
  • Health vs Shields: Shields only deflect damage. If you're in a gun fight, try to HEAL first THEN shield up.

I think it's telling that two of the most successful games of the last couple of years were $40 at launch.

Not going to lie, thinking about all of the games that have come out this year, I think this is one of the better years I can remember. Lots of great stuff.

This brings up a question, is it not all the same queuing? If you are a solo you only queue with solos?

I haven't paid that close of attention, but in 2 solo raids yesterday, I only ran into other solos (as far as I know).

From what I understand, everyone ques together no matter if its solo, duo, or a three stack. When I play in a three stack, we usually leave solos alone so maybe people are doing that a lot. When I play solo, I feel like I play a whole raid without running into another player more often than not.

I'm getting remarkably unlucky or something. I can't step five feet into an area without another raider downing me with a shot or two. It's kind of funny, but at the same time, I'm not sure what the game is like because I can't even loot anything. I fired my gun in the tutorial though! So that was nice.

Yeah I've played several raids so far with free load outs. Killed one raider, a handful of ARCs and died 80 percent of my runs, half to AI and half to players.

Some of the movement during combat, reloading (since so many other actions seem to cancel this out) and menus upon menus make the game feel clunky at times.

The most annoying thing so far is that the tool tip description for the first item inside a loot box doesn't automatically show up and I have to move to the 2nd item and back just to see what the first item actually is unless I recognize the icon right away. Maybe I'm missing a setting to turn on.

Going to give this a bit more time but not sure this type of game is for me.

OK, I've played Escape From Tarkov on and off for a few years, and this game is just magic.

The threat and difficulty of the larger robots really make this game shine because, unlike Tarkov, there is an incentive to not just merc every player that you see. You usually spawn in, collect a little bit of loot solo or with a team, but when everyone has a half-full belly, they really want to extract. But to do so, at times, is difficult due to the robots, so you tend to treat any player that you encounter as friend-first and team up against the robots to extract.

I was playing in a random trio yesterday and we encountered and made friendly with 2 other trios.

The 9 of us engaged a Leaper robot, which was tough as hell to kill, and it took all of us nearly 3 minutes all together to kill the robot.

We had a few players down, who we revived and we all healed up. That was all fancy and fine...until someone noticed that there were a few raiders around that did not contribute and were kind of stalkerish and timid.

Someone asked on the area-chat "Are these guys friendly?" and then all hell broke loose.

They started shooting at our make-shift posse and I was killed in the crossfire and lost all of my ***** The trio of betrayers was culled after a short time, and the rest of the group extracted successfully.

But I didnt even care, that was so action-packed and interesting gameplay...it's an extraction shooter that is friendly first, but still has some danger if you dont vet your friendlies well. I like it a lot.

See you guys topside, add me.

Great to hear - I just topped level 30 and have had some fantastic raids and experiences so far. Highly recommend bringing your best loot gear and good comms with a strong other 2 for NIGHT raids. Quick story:

We went to Dam Battlegrounds (night raid) Control Tower with a key to get into the control room. I decided to outfit with a lot of utilities - several shock trap mines and door barricades. We spawned in early and made a beeline for the control tower.

They took point and breached doors. I'd turn around and util the doors by barricading them then setting a trap for 3-4 doors as we went higher up. Quickly looted the control tower - made our way outside. Had to throw several lure grenades to get the pacing rocketeer off of us. All the while, I could hear my traps inside the building giving people fits. We had a team right on our tail. I set a zipline to get from the upper control room to the ground (CLUTCH) - then another to get us over to the red lakes extract quickly. THEN we started getting shot in the back from the tower. As we get near the extract - a buddy uses a syringe to sprint to the button. The trailing team finally gets to us, and I get knocked in the lift. The other team runs in to try and finish us and, on his backswing, as he's trying to knock me out, a hornet tazes him and he goes down. With about 4 people crawling around in the lift, both teams managed to extract. Haven't had a gaming rush like that since possibly Left 4 Dead.

I loved Tarkov until the cheating got out of hand. Then the PvE only version was released and I really enjoyed it for a while.

This game doesn't have me as stressed, but that's a good thing. If I die, I don't worry about it because I can get right back into a raid quickly. Tarkov took so long to manage your hideout, inventory, flea market, and then load into a raid that you may run 2 raids in an hour. With this, I am playing the game more than I am managing inventory and waiting around.

This reminds me of Scavengers, which I really liked as well. However, I think this is definitely a better game and will likely stick around a lot longer.

Yeah Tarkov really soured for me during the times where it took 10-15 minutes to even load into a Scav run, only to die about 4-5 minutes in.

Im sure things are better in that department now, but you're right. I could set aside 2 hours to play the game, and maybe only end up with 1 successful extract out of 4-5 games due to the loading times, inventory/task management, spawning right next to someone who knew the map better than me, who was super sweaty 6 days after wipe. It was a magnet playground for sweaty Grief-lords.

Tarkov is one of those games that I looked up gameplay of and elected not to play it. I respect the grind but it's just not for me. Arc seems a little bit more respectful of player time.

That's why I wasn't really wanting to jump into it either, but I had a friend that was really into it and talked me into trying it. The game was really well done and was a lot of fun, but it definitely got to where you were managing and preparing for a raid more than actually playing in a raid, especially if you loaded in with a party and you died early in the raid.

No respec is definitely a choice. I've put points in stamina stuff first then field craft and quicker loot reveal/quieter looting.

Game is great otherwise once you get the hang of it. In solo queue about 95 percent of players aren't pvpers it seems, at least on dam, buried city and spaceport. Really want some new weapon blueprints (anvil would be great) but all I've found so far is a glowstick and showstopper blueprint. Rooms with keycards have the best loot as far as I can tell but I've only looted 2 so far.

Edit, got a silencer blueprint tonight. Looks to be quite useful.

From cr0wbar it sounds like the game is better in teams.

From the solo perspective (tl;dr in last paragraph), I would say 99% of players are friendly and cooperative. Because the mechanics foster cooperation in the solo queue, you're just farming. The whole game is opening boxes. Fight a few things here in there, some challenging and rewarding sure with a sprinkling of humorous moments interacting with others, but you just run around opening boxes.

I say that because cooperation is extremely high, so high I personally don't want to engage anybody and be the jerk to ruin their game, and apparently most players similarly don't want to engage me; however, that leaves me open to that occasional 1 percent, which means getting shot in the back. It happens so rarely it is irritating when it does - and they never scored anything good off me - but because of those few random times I now thank people for not shooting me in the back when they appear behind me.

So, then I'm like, what is so great about this game from the solo perspective, aesthetics aside? It's just farming and managing inventory.

In 57 hours of play, divided between my son and I, and at level 31 we've been shot in the back a handful of times. Either when fighting arc or opening some stupid box. And damn, the looting system, out of 68 blueprints I've found 9 and I continually get repeats regardless of the keycard value.

Because 1) the cooperation is built in, as opposed to say, Hunt Showdown, where everyone is pushed to fight for the same objective regardless of party size, and 2) every once in a blue moon the surprise downing by someone who is playing entirely different from 99% of people who don't want to fight, and 3) grinding for the same repeat rewards, the game is slowly becoming a bore for soloing with the rare downing by some ***** while 99% of us are just doing our thing.

Currently in the process of upgrading of workbenches from 2->3 unfortunately need a handful of leaper, rocketeer, bastion cores. Was at 2/3 rusted gears for several days. Recommend looting cars and the heavy equipment repeatedly until you get your gears.

Hullcracker is a lot of fun. But I took a bad angle and started firing at a Rocketeer from height. He ZOOMED up to me and started circling and I kept missing shot after shot. He humbled me quickly

I've found that doing solo for quests or loot with anything other than a free loadout is a complete waste. PVP is more about who gets the drop than what gear you have. Someone with a non-upgraded stitcher can down you even with a medium shield before you have a chance to do much.
zip04
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Obviously not solo, but in duos and up I love the medium shield. FIDO95 and I were shot from behind and the medium shield saved me (that and I was running the shotgun and FIDO had the anvil. We took cover and healed up while they pushed and then we tore them up when they got close range. Absolutely destroyed them.
