Samsung is almost 600$ more depending on size but curious if anyone else has recommendations over other brands and/or if these type of tvs are worth it.

Reading some reviews the TCL reason is pretty solid.

Looking at the TCL for this reason over the Samsung because of the reviews in Samsung weren't stellar for their "frame" tv

My wife wanted an Art TV for above the fireplace. We didn't like The Frame because it requires a special box, and the wiring for it ruins the whole purpose of getting an Art TV. We got the TCL but ended up returning it because the screen still seemed pretty glossy and we didn't like the art selection. We felt like it didn't look like actual art work. About a week ago we got the HiSense, and we think it looks great for art. We have a separate media room where we watch movies and sports, so actual tv watching isn't as important for this tv. Anyways, the picture looks great, and it has a much larger selection of built in paintings (after running an update, it's probably close to a thousand pictures). Hanging it was a pain, because it has a special mount that doesn't really give any room for error. I can't really speak to overall quality, as we've only had it about a week, but so far we are happy with. It has Google TV with all the apps you'd expect.

We have the Samsung frame downstairs and the TCL version upstairs in the playroom.

Samsung is significantly better for the art display. App is better (which its app isn't great, the TCL app is just really bad), the way the art looks is better, and the way the art is auto displayed when turning off the tv is better.

Every review I've read and the ones I've seen is that the TCL's art mode is behind even 1st gen Frame's because of the gloss finish. It's just not great. I've been debating a Frame or Frame style when redoing my office next year. How was the HiSense's wiring?

I'll also add that I understand it obviously depends on every scenario and set up, but, for us, the Samsung box situation worked perfect.

It's on a tile wall over the fireplace that already had conduit running to a cabinet. So the box sits in that cabinet. It's nice when we upgraded to an apple TV to just open that cabinet and plug it in vs. having to worry about trying to hide it behind the TV that sits flush to the wall.

The only negative is the sound bar has to run unnecessarily far to plug into that box as well.

Love my Frame. Get asked regularly "is that a picture or a tv?". Makes me smile every time.

Samsung has come out with a "Pro" version of the Frame that makes the One Connect box wireless. Not sure how the picture would look with it being sent wirelessly or what the lag might be…maybe someone here has one and can share their opinions.

I don't have anything plugged into the TV. We just stream everything, so there wasn't really any wiring necessary other than the power cord. That's a good thing, because there is no room behind the TV. I imagine this is a common problem with art TVs. Since they are meant to look like a picture frame, the mount leaves no space between the TV and the wall. Ensuring the power cord didn't cause the TV to push out from the wall was a pain, I can't imagine also having to do the same with HDMI cables.

And, broadly speaking, streaming devices like Apple TV will be significantly better than the smart TV. Why I like Samsung's with just one wire running to the box.

We bought a frame TV for our living room a few years ago a love it.

There is one semi-translucent power cord to worry about. You can embed it in the wall if you're feeling fancy. Our frame is above the fireplace, so we just tuck it around the edge.

Hot tip - don't pay for the art subscription. You can download any hi res image you like online, convert it to the correct dimensions with the link below, and upload it to the frame from your phone via the app.

It's really nice being able to easily change the art to match the season or occasion.
Thanks and gig'em

Wife and I have discussed finally putting a Framed-type TV in our bedroom for the last couple of years. Black Friday had us examining all three options folks have mentioned (Framed, HiSense, and TCL). Framed is a good chunk more money and still have to buy the frame. TCL undercuts the HiSense by a few bucks but not much.

The HiSense has a better refresh rate if gaming is a possibility for any TV you may be considering. And it comes with a frame.

We haven't made a decision yet, so will keep an eye on this thread.

On a personal note, my wife wanted me to have an internet outlet put in halfway up the wall in our room to avoid a cable if we ever wanted to hard wire internet to the TV (which happened on our den Samsung when the WiFi connected fizzled out).

Anyway, I elected to listen to the technician and put it down toward the ground near the regular power outlet since we'd have to plug in the TV anyway.

Let's just say I haven't heard the end of it yet on how dumb I was to put it down low after she told me otherwise.
