Got a new monitor yesterday, and for the life of me, I can't get the sound to work.

It's connected via HDMI, I've selected the monitor as the sound output, sound is maxed both on my computer and in my monitor's setting, and it's not muted on either. I have the latest driver, and the Windows troubleshooter has been no help, it just reverts the output to my laptop speakers after all the steps.

Any ideas?

I know this sounds like a dumb question but are you sure the monitor has speakers? I have two 27" MSI monitors that both show up as audio devices in my computer sound settings but neither one has speakers.

I guess I'm the idiot. I just saw it pop up as an audio device on my computer so I just assumed it had speakers.

I don't know why the monitor would have an internal volume setting if it doesn't have speakers, but I guess it doesn't.

I would bet it's for the audio out that most monitors have. My two monitors have headphone jacks.
