Gmail and problems with the junk folder

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Long story short, Gmail is selectively sending some emails from my bank to junk.

It does not send all of them to junk, only some. I only realized this because, evidently my bank sent out a notice last year that they were adding a $10/month fee. I never got this email.

I found out the problem today when I logged into the account and it was overdrawn. I logged in because I happened to get an email from this bank offering me overdraft protection.

When I called the bank and they insisted they sent me notice about the fees, I checked my junk folder, and there were messages from the bank there.

But because I was getting some emails, I didn't realize that I was missing any.

I know in Gmail, you can automatically send emails from certain addresses to junk. But is there anyway to flag an address or a sender as "never send to junk"?

I'm just trying to prevent something like this from happening again.

Edited to add: It does look like the bank uses different email addresses to send communication. So, I can't just flag one email address. I need any/all emails from the name of the bank.

With freemail, you get what you pay for.

I'll always recommend everyone get their own domain name and have it hosted so they can have it their way.
Reading this forum sometimes is like people that can't speak English well trying to differentiate between a "booty call" and a "butt dial".

Unfortunately many companies do not practice good email hygiene as far as the technical side goes. This often ends up getting their email flagged by spam detection.

Also if you have a habit of deleting emails before reading (say from vendors you have shopped with) them they can eventually end up getting spam canned.

I believe if you open the email it will give you the option to mark as not spam or safe. Future emails will come through to your inbox.

I opened up the email I got today (that was not marked as junk), but I didn't see anywhere to flag it.

I could probably do that with the email that was sent to junk, but like I said, it was sent from a different email address. I was hoping there was a way I could flag the name of the bank (to hopefully catch messages from multiple different emails).

Doesn't help that the bank has a stupid, non-official sounding name. Who names a bank Wellby? Sounds like a supplement company.

in Gmail, when you create filters there is an option to "Never send to spam"...

To stop Gmail from sending specific emails to spam, create a filter to "Never send it to Spam."
In Gmail settings, go to Filters and Blocked Addresses > Create a new filter, enter the sender's email address in the "From" field, click Create filter, and check the box "Never send it to Spam".

Key Actions to Prevent Spam Folder Delivery:
  • Create a "Never Send to Spam" Filter: This is the most effective method, especially for specific, trusted senders.
  • Mark as "Not Spam": Open the spam email and click the "Report not spam" button at the top to train Gmail's filters.
  • Add to Contacts: Add the sender to your Google Contacts, which acts as a whitelist.
  • Check Filters: Ensure no existing filters are incorrectly moving emails to the spam folder.
  • Search for Filters: In the "Has the words" field, you can enter "is:spam" and select "Never send it to spam" to try to override, but this should be used cautiously.

to follow on my previous post - if all the emails from your bank come from the same domain (bank.com), then you can make one filter for it...in the filter "From" field, just enter "bank.com" - anything from that domain will fall within the rules of that filter.

Another way is to just find a common token/slug in the email address itself, and use the "Has the Words" portion of the filter.

Note: you cannot use wildcards in gmail filters, so *bank.com doesn't work, nor does *wellby*...but "Has the words" = 'wellby' will work.

Take control of your life and use filters and labels. Thank me later.
