Any recommendations for a dash cam for our soon to be 16 year old? Preferably something I can get quickly off Amazon.

Viofo. This is the one I use, but they have cheaper that are very good as well. It has excellent day and night video and great license plate legibility.

They also sell a little bluetooth connected remote control button that I recommend, very handy.

It's a year old now, but I love this guys reviews. He has the Viofo winning here too. You can skip to the chart at the end if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

Thanks y'all. Normally I'd research myself but running out of time on this one.

My older 2 girls didn't use them, but my son is going to be driving a mustang (it's an echo boost... I'm crazy, but not giving my 16 year old a V8 crazy) and he really wants one. He's a really good kid, but teenagers with sport cars are sometimes targets for BS.

I have this same one. Without the remote control thing. Curious what you use that remote for?

It has three buttons and can be easily stickered to your dash or center console, wherever you like. If well placed, it looks nearly factory. The big button triggers a video save. Two smaller buttons on the side can be programmed, I have one set to toggle audio recording on/off, the other turns on wifi when i want to download videos. Never have to reach for the tiny buttons on the camera now.

I've had this REDTIGER with front and rear cameras for a couple of years and have been pleased with it so far.

Make sure to get one that can read license plates.

We got my son a 70mai A810S 4K Dual Dash Cam Front & Rear from Amazon. Works great

We've used it twice, neither his fault at all. The car driving next to him had a car pull in front of them, get hit, and drive away at night. He pulled over and gave the video to the other driver. It was enough for the cops to find the runner.

I don't hink I'll own a car without a dash cam again.

I've owned 4 or 5 dash cams over the years. All could disable the internal vehicle audio.

I did. I got the one recommended in the first reply. His birthday is today so it's license day for him.

Appreciate y'all's help!

How hard is it to install these things without wires going all over the place. Think that's one reason I haven't gotten one.

Really not that hard at all. I was a bit nervous as well. In my truck I bought a Dongar adapter so the camera is plugged into my rearview mirror and then running the wire for the back camera I just ran it between the ceiling and the liner. Really easy. I did not have to run my wire down the pillar into the fuse box or anything since I used the Dongar adapter.

It's really not that hard. Can get tricky if you use fuse taps to hardwire the power. But there are tons of videos on YouTube showing how to install them.

I've only installed one so far. Wire running was pretty easy. Biggest thing for me was tapping into the fuses. I assumed one of the fuses would be always on but I think one I picked didn't have enough power for me to tap off of so wasn't working. The next two when I install I'm going to make sure I verify with multimeter on off flow states and it should go a lot smoother.

I ordered 2 of these today since I drive a lot and use two vehicles. That was the easy part...now comes the installation. I have a 2022 F150 and a 2021 Lexus NX.

I've installed 6+ different cameras on multiple vehicles. Most of the dash cams come with a cig lighter connection for power (maybe all). I never had to tap into a fuse box. The cig lighter connection usually has two USB ports, one for the dash camera and one for whatever use you want. Just make sure the cig lighter turns on/off with the car.

Just run the dash cam wire along the top windshield and down the A pillar. You'll be able to find ways to tuck it in. The dash cam kits usually come with a plastic trim piece to help tuck or pull trim pieces.

Fuse taps are typically only needed if you have a camera that has a g sensor and will record when the vehicle is off and it detects movement of the car. Or you don't want to see any wires or use the 12v adapter.
