Looks like I got all my console buying done at the right time... Steamdeck and PS5 within the past 2 years.

I had thought about trading in my PS5 for a pro if something like GTA had big framerate benefits, but even disposable income has its limits.

Insane. I have a Series S that I use as a GamePass machine just so I can play AAA titles and that is still seeming like the best value...

I hope this AI bubble pops soon. Been going on too long and is killing the electronics industry.

When the dust settles it will just been seen as wasted spending by tech companies fighting a pyrrhic war for survival whose solution of "build as much as possible" wasn't the right one.

Glad I got my PS5 Pro a few months ago.

On the bright side there is going to be a ton of HBM modules available in time for the Nvidia 7 series cards once this demand ceases.

PS5 has been out for years. Anyone that wanted one has purchased one by now.

Is it? Been out 6 years, 92 million sold. If you were a laggard waiting for prices to go down with data centers, AI, and tariffs impacting the entire gaming market, then that's entirely on you.

I wouldn't say that there was going to be some massive surge in buyers with an aging console. If anything, this says more about the future state of gaming, but I still think supply and demand will prevail long term. Perhaps we'll just have to agree to disagree. Not looking to start an argument or namecall here.

However, there will still need to be a competitor in the home console market, which with Xbox bowing out, could make the price increase stick around with the PS6.

With XBox all but quitting and being two years away from a PS6 that's a lot of buyers still out there between now and PS6.

Out of curiosity I looked up trade in prices at Gamestop (I have a Series S laying around because my son switched to PC)... I could get within a couple hundred of a PS5 Pro with my S and regular Slim PS5.

The issue is, Gamestop doesn't have any Pro's available to sell within 100 miles of me. They have used ones (which they sell for more than a new one, go figure).

I think PS5 may have a lot more longevity than past platforms. NVIDIA is already hinting that their strategy is more centered around squeezing more blood from the rock of existing platforms. We'll probably see the equivalent on the PS5 side. All of the hardware to even start next gen development on games would be ridiculously expensive which then will get passed on to the consumer. You'd be paying $180 dollars for the new game on your $1500 next gen console. The market would tank. If anything, the next gen will be cloud based, but that bubble is about to burst. It'll be interesting to see what the Azure/AWS/Google prices will be a few years from now when it's time for them to start refreshing their hardware.

Given the recent price hikes I'm now VERY interested to see what the cost of Steam's new gear (particularly the Steam Machine) ends up being.

Almost got a PS5 because I could get a deal then remembered I have not powered on my XBOX and don't play any PS games.

I literally had to talk myself out of it because of the price hike.
