Are these still a thing? I know most kids have super advanced stuff on their smart phones that they probably play. But I remember with my first calculator playing these all the time. Pretty sure it was the first thing I did when I got it.

I never played any games on mine but in 1993 or 1994 I programmed my HP 48GX to turn on my TV in the morning and increase the volume every 5 minutes until I dragged myself out bed.

I was really, really good at calculator Tetris.

They made us clear our calculators in Stat at A&M and I wanted to cry.

Should've just left since I ended up dropping the class anyway.

I did not.

Only reason I had Tetris was a dude in high school loaded us with games. No idea how to get them.

You needed to have one person in your circle of friends who had a serial cable to connect their calculator to a computer. That person would get all the games, then they could just use a calculator to calculator link cable to distribute.

I actually built the data cable back in the day because the official one was so expensive.

you just had to sacrifice a link cable and a printer cable and wire in a few diodes

Why would you? Install a GameBoy emulator on your cell phone and download every game that has ever been released. No need for calc games.

More and more school districts are banning phones during the school day. Kansas just passed a law that bans students from using all personal electronic communication devices, including phones, tablets, computers, smart watches or wireless headphones, during the school day. Those devices must be powered off and stored in a locker, car, or school provided faraday bag.

A calculator full of games skirts around that.
