My favorite restaurant is probably Chuy's. I know, I know, its a chain, but it is damn good. They are building one in College Station and I can't tell you how happy I am about it.

A great place I love to eat with the parents and grandparents is Winchester Steakhouse outside La Grange. The place has been open, with different owners over the years, since the 1850's I think.

Anybody listing Johnny Cace's in Longview must not have eaten there in several years. It was once as good as it gets, but the food has gone downhill in a big way while the prices have increased. The last time I was there, I swear the "rice pilaf" that was served with the Catfish Lafayette was chicken flavored Rice-a-Roni.

Her BBQ was hit or miss when I was growing up, but back then we also had Leon's BBQ out by the airport. You went to Florida for the soul food, which was pretty damn good. However, my favorite soul food now is Weaver D's in Athens, GA. It's the namesake for REM's Automatic for the People and holy hell if that isn't some damn good southern cookin'.

My last meal in Texas before we moved to Georgia was Shrimpboat Manny's in Livingston. Only commercially made etouffee I like.

Chuys is good; its a different kind of mexican than you can find any where else. They make their salsa fresh on site which is more than can be said for a lot of mexican food places.

If you don't think so, well I dont know what to tell you. And if you think Chuy's = Olive Garden, well I don't even know how to respond to that.



Also, I think Klump's closed, or got bought out and renamed. It was called something different the last time we drove through Round Top.

Ate at Hullabaloo's in Welborn today for brunch. Had biscuits and gravy and juevos rancheros. They were pretty good. My wife's pancakes were as big as a dinner plate and almost an inch thick. I seriously think she has enough left for dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow.

Chuys is like any other tex mex. it sll taste the same and that includes taco bell.

chuy's is the olive garden of tex-mex. ranch dressing as one of their salsas? come on now.

And just when I thought we were shedding the vale of being picky/snobby eaters on the OB, we come flying back.

I think we should have established something along the lines of a $10 max for main dishes. CFS and BBQ, would get a slight allowance, but not much of one.

I would easily rate Chuy's above any other crap TexMex like On the Border. Living in Georgia, I have considered eating OtB more than once (haven't done it; can't do it).

That said, Chuy's was one of my stops when I was in Texas last July. Love me some creamy jalapeno.

I ended up eating at Canadian Restaurant several times (pricing was good).

i wasn't trying to be a jerk. i don't dislike chuy's, it's "ok." i just thought it was weird that people list it as a favorite. i don't think the olive garden is bad either, it's fine for what it is, cheap, mediocre italian food that gets the job done and is consistent. much like chuy's is with mexican food.
