Got real lucky in Frio county and poured out 1/4 teaspoon from my gauge.

Was in Abilene this weekend and they had 2-4". It was awesome driving back seeing swollen creeks and full ponds.

3.5" near Concan this week plus maybe 3/10 yesterday. It rained a lot more closer to Concan and down into Sabinal based on what I saw on the roads.

Does it need to rain up around Leakey to get good water in the springs, etc which feed the river? Hoping for at least decent water this summer.

Water level was okay but definitely need more rain to keep the Frio at higher levels. The springs feed it enough to have water but the quality of the float is 100% dependent on rainwater.

My brother lives close to Garden Ridge and he is reporting over 6" and there are some darn big storms moving into his area right now. I do not forsake anyone rain, but damn I was just bragging to him about the 2.9 I got over the last 2 days. We could have really used more down here south of SA.

The boll weevil control folks will love you
It only took me a year to figure out this place is nuts!

There isn't an agricultural field within 10 miles of this place, so it should be just fine. That did use to be a major objection of the landowner though... this is first year we have done it and ideally just supplementing late winter and early spring when deer are recovering and food isn't as plentiful. Protein will continue to be the supplemental feed of choice.

Don't think it matters. We had a really good presentation from the boll weevil guys a few years back, and he said deer and cattle feeding with cottonseed was troublesome for them. They've found enormous plants down south when it didn't freeze. They even made a lady with a "cotton tree" in her landscape in town spray.

So bringing bagged cottonseed and keeping it pens for wildlife consumption only can be problematic for boll weevils? I see boll weevils in deer corn all the time - even from bags at the feed store that haven't sat outside for a while… what is the unique threat about cottonseed and weevils?

The weevils you find in corn and other grains aren't boll weevils. Different critter. Where cottonseed poses an issue is not the seed itself, but the rogue plants it can produce. Mexico dropped the ball a few years back and we ended up with a few in South Texas. The control folks even have to watch road and highway right of ways for volunteer plants. Remember, cotton is a perennial plant, so it can literally grow into a tree in the Valley and bloom all year.
