Yeah I had to leave Thursday to free up ramp space.

That whole show really messed my week up and I spent most of our time not flying either replanning with the army or trying to get a straight answer on when my 2 jets had to be gone

Looks like a tail rotor gearbox failure.

I don't have any direct experience with the Bell 222, but I think it has an outsize reputation for killing occupants.

tail rotor control linkage failure. Blancoliro showed a still photo of it hanging in the wind. Would have caused a huge vibration that ripped the tail rotor system apart. Killing the throttles and dropping the collective would have minimized the spinning, but it would have crashed no matter what considering the altitude, airspeed and obstacles. This might have been the best possible outcome since no one died. I hope all of the injured recover quickly and fully!

Thy stalled it about 5-10 feet off the ground so it just free fell the last few feet. Gonna be some back pain on that plane!

What did the paint job set you back?

Mine is still in pretty good shape but my brother's could sure use new paint.

Both of them are '67 F models.

Nice ride!

Was quoted $22k at Maxwell's in GGG. That is for redoing what you have, maybe a color change.

I went a "little" crazy, 4 color, new design, Imron Clearcoat Metallics, so $35k out the door. I just had it Ceramic coated last week, so a shade under $37k total.

Thanks for the information!

My brothers plane does already have a contemporary color scheme but whoever painted it did not properly prepare the surface so there is paint peeling and it looks bad in spots.

We will be dropping off his plane to Maxwell on Monday for his annual so I'll make a point to get a quote from them.
