I helped process ostriches at Readfield's in the late 90s as an undergrad. Dr. Blue Mclendon had a healthy distain for students who missed her class, even if it was for University sanctioned competition. However, she also had a big ostrich research project and had gotten in a bind. A classmate and I emptied and weighed gizzards for extra credit. They're dumb and fowl animals.
On my recent trip to Colorado, Bruno from the ski and bow rack told me that he once saw someone using a "pack ostrich" in the Backcountry. He confirmed my earlier assessment.
