Sorry for the long wait on the heat map. I had a surgery this week, and the recovery took longer than I thought. Also, I had a heck of a time trying to find a site that would help me make a heat map without too many restrictions. I ended up using Maply. While it lets me put in enough data points, it won't let me share a "live map" without a subscription. I was hoping yall would be able to zoom in and out and scroll around, as it's pretty cool seeing all the data come to life. But, you'll have to do with just a simple view. I still think it gives a pretty good idea. Hope y'all enjoy! I'll update it if any more significant data is posted.
But we ended up with:
524 responses covering 158 counties, which clocks in a little over 62% of the state. I'de say that's pretty darn good for a single forum!!!

Each red dot represents an individual county. The darker the red dot, the more data for that location. You can see the list below to see how many were in a particular county.

Seriously, lists like that blow my mind. Thats a massive number of places. I wish I had access to that kind to hunting land.

All that was asked was what counties you have killed a deer in. No further details.

I didn't include those indicating they hit a deer with their truck, as I thought that was obviously tongue-in-cheek. But, we didn't include numbers of deer, buck/doe, size, or any other metric. So, type of property is not in the data set. The heat maps only reflect where deer have been killed by OB'ers. Not even how many deer have been killed (though I figure that map wouldn't look too dissimilar).

If yall want to start parsing out more details from this exercise, someone else needs to take over the data. That ain't in my bag.

As someone from the panhandle I'd say there's two reasons for that.

1. Not that many panhandle kids go to A&M so fewer people on Texags that would've hunted there

2. People up there don't lease their land for hunting like they do elsewhere in Texas. I was lucky to have a family that owned 12 sections let me hunt their place while growing up. Nobody else hunted it, not even the family because they just didn't care to hunt. It was their ranch for cattle and I'd say that sentiment is pretty common up there

This is spot on. I have a lot of family and friends in the panhandle. And while they have killed a few deer, most aren't hunters like my hill country family is. And none of them lease to hunters.
