Nature is damn resilient.
I just left deer camp after almost 12 days of being out there. I know I'm getting older because I didn't take a buck in almost two weeks of hunting, but the trip was incredible, and I'm very thankful. Ten years ago me would have been pretty upset with myself for not getting a big buck, but I put two does in the freezer, shot a couple of pigs and a couple of yotes, and my liver is still intact as far as I know.
What I do know is that I left with less than what I came with when I first climbed into the blind. That is definitely a perspective that has improved with age.
I'm probably the worst millennial of all time with my phone, and I always forget to take pictures, but I did remember to take one to show a buddy the mobile gantry set up I have.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and here is to closing out the season strong.

I had a buck about 10 years ago that was a little 4 pt but broke damn near the base of his skull on one side. I guess the skin was holding it in place because it just dangled on the side of his head. When he got scared (feeder going off or hog coming in) it would bounce all over and hit him in the face. Can't imagine that was very fun for that guy or this guy.
Gantry makes a one person job much easier. I built one for my jeep using the winch this year after trying to hoist one into my truck. Not as young anymore

Finally some decent hunting weather in Duval Co. this morning. Bucks should be starting to get interested in does pretty soon.

Killing weather around B/CS this morning. I'm on kid duty but buddies are out in some of my stands.
Tried to talk the daughter into going after a buck but she just shrugged and said she'd rather duck hunt. So we're going to bust up the wood duck roost in the rain this evening.

Well about the time to fill sausage tags with does.
Despite the cold and wet and dreariness and lack of wind the deer had other plans today in Duval. Overall slow. Need to take a few does but they all have twins with them and if they don't have twins they have a single. Tough to pull the trigger on mamas.

I am one of those who fit comfortably in the "old" category.
Last weekend, my three adult sons took me to the hill country. I let them do all of the shooting so they would think they are "in charge".

I'm working on a 6arc build ! Can you tell me what BCG and buffer system you went with?
I love my 6ARC. I'm getting close to .243 velocities. Well over 2900 fps with a 90gn TGK. Mine is a 20 in.

Have run the H1 buffer with my 16" mid gas 5.56 since I built it originally. Slapped the new 6ARC upper I built on and let it ride. Loaded a 10 rd PMAG with 4 rds and charged. First shot was FTE. Cleared it and got a failed feed. Started single feeding for a few shots then loaded 4 in the same mag and it cycled like a champ.

I basically went with all of the relatively cheap parts I could find on Optics planet. I already had the bare upper receiver from EyeGuy class year set.
$185 out the door from Optic Planet for the BCG, hand guard, brake, forward assist, gas block and tube. Plus a blem cantilever mount.
Ballistic Advantage 16" stainless mid 1:7 twist for $120 out the door.
Strike Eagle 1-8 from someone on TexAgs 3-4 years ago for ~$150 if I remember right.

Ok thanks! I have an adjustable gas block, so hopefully I can tune that up. I have an H2 buffer though. I guess I'll try it and see what happens
