Figured someone here knows their propane.

I have a rent house that I just converted the last appliance to electric. Problem is, I had just filled the outside propane tank. Is there a way for me to use that to fill 20lb bottles? It probably has 150 gallons in it right now. I assume the propane company won't buy it back? I plan to leave the tank in case I sell the house and the buyer wants propane. Will it eventually leak out after a number of years?

The propane company should come reclaim it and credit you.

I looked into adding the ability to fill 20# bottles off my home 500 gal tank. It was pricey, as the propane company would have to come install. Certainly would not be worth it to just empty a tank.

It has been many years now but we installed a hose on our Big tank at our Machine shop to be able to refill forklift bottles. As I recall it was basic hose and NPT fittings.

You need a bottle kit on your tank. It has a tube that goes to the bottom of the tank in the liquid, along with a valve and hose/adapter. You fill tanks with liquid, not gas. I am pretty sure that is not a retrofit item.

It's called a wet line. They don't like to install them these days but would have to drain tank to install, anyway.
