My buddy took this deer just north of Woodville (Tyler County) yesterday. Low fence and he has been hunting on this lease for 32 years. 22 points and scored 180 1/2.

180 1/2 inches by certified B&C score. 22 points, 19 scorable points, 3 broken points including a drop time and 7 inches around left base. Game Wardens are sending a biologist out today to measure and take a dna hair sample they are thinking it could be a Tyler county free range record.

Are you counting the broken stuff in the measurement to 180"?

Do you have a copy of the score sheet? I'd love to see how he gets there. Regardless, super cool buck and truly a giant for east tx!

Truly awesome buck!
I hate that we often detract from these amazing animals by trying to put a number on them. That's a once in a lifetime buck, that anyone should be over the moon about. Really amazing!!! Not too many people have killed a low-fence (or high-fence) buck with 22 points! So cool!

That said- I am really struggling to see anything close to 180 there. Like Tandy, I would love to see what I'm missing here and how he gets to 180. Pictures can be deceiving, for sure.

But this is a truly awesome buck if he measures 140, 160. 180, or 200… it doesn't matter. Your friend got an amazing deer, and should be proud!

Non-Typical. No way he scores very much typical, as every difference in non matching points would be deductions. Only brow times and main beams would be somewhat even.

Such a cool buck. Congrats to the hunter.

Being aggressive with the measurements - I get 25" beams, 16" spread, 30" mass (narrowest measurement between the burr and g1), 40" typical points - 136" (likely closer to "132"). 30" of non-typical points.

Aggie hunter ….. you probably already know this… but tell your buddy, if he wants it entered officially into B&C he has to have it scored by a certified official B&C measurer.
That person has to fill out the score form and sign it with his measurer # to make it official.
TPWD Biologist are not all B&C measurer certified.
Just fyi.

Gnarly buck. Be curious to see where they're measuring each mass. Sometimes that is where the argument happens on bucks like this.
INIGO MONTOYA

Is the argument around what is a typical point? I don't see much argument on this buck - it's the smallest measurement on the beams between the typical points. If it's an 8 point frame the last measurement is taken half way between the g3 and the beam tip.

Yep. I think many arguments like this are because many people don't really understand how to measure a deer, even though they think they do.

There are some great tools online to help you learn how to measure. B&C's official online tool is pretty foolproof.

Here's where i have him based on the pics. The cells in yellow are points I'm not sure about and am assuming they are the following, as they are all I can see: Bottom burr on right base, intact portion of drop tine, and 2 top extras on left G2. I can't find the 22nd point.

This is about the best I can make him; 36" of mass on a mf 8pt is tremendous for any area, much less etx.

That said, he ended up closer to that 180 mark than I thought, and by a decent margin.

As mentioned, regardless of score that deer is cool as hell

Why is he taking so many circumference measurements on the left side? Looks like he measured mass 6 times on that side? (LC 1-6)

yep - mass measurements are whacked. 4 each side. i'm guessing 34" generously.

34" Mass (generous)
48" beams
16" spread
37" points

135" gross Typical.

27" non-typical

162" gross NT.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
yea tandy - i edited that before you posted and increased to 34"

R - 5.5, 4.5, 3.5, 3
L - 5.5, 4.5, 4, 2

32.5" - could see it getting to 35 - but those last two measurements are gonna hurt.
