Long story short, I have a blackbuck ready at the taxi that is not going to work where I envisioned… I didn't account for how much taller the overall mount would be than my whitetail, and the ceiling is too low to put him where I want.

I have a spot that I could put a floor pedestal, though, and it got me wondering if I could build something.

Have any of yall done/seen this? Thinking about a base covered in old barnwood or something with some habitat with an old fence post coming up that I would mount the shoulder mount on.

I did exactly that. My previous 2 story house had low ceiling living room with two full windows on either side of fire place. I built a couple of end table looking pieces skinned with old fence boards. Then got some large tall cypress knees off of ebay to put the mounts on. Had three mounts per. I will try to dig up some old pictures.

I may be wrong, but it seems like even a huge black buck would not be much taller, if at all, than a nice whitetail buck mount. Their horns may be 6-8" taller but their body should be way smaller. Picture is just an example I found.

I have 2 whitetail wall pedestal mounts I built floor stand for. Pretty simple-build the floor stand with a relatively flat spot to attach the mount. I drilled 2 holes through the floor stand and attached mount with two 6" lag screws.

Yep-you can make it as big as you want. As long as you have a relatively flat spot to attach the back of the pedestal mount to.

Other than being able to move it around…. Couldn't you have just hung him on the wall behind him at that same height under the two picture frames?

Probably could have hung him on the wall at that height-but I prefer the way it looks on the stand vs wall.
Thanks-bow kill on our farm in Fayette county. Grew up hunting in Fayette county-we don't see 20" wide deer on low fence farm very often.

Understand and makes sense on the mount. It looks very nice and is a great idea.

Got the base built. Used 2 2x12's tstacked on top of each other. Stained them, faced w/ cedar 1x4's, and put a coat of poly on all of it. Plan is to put a piece of mesquite on base with a long lag bolt and mount Edgar to the wood. Will post pics once I finish. No idea if this is gonna work, I'm not good at building stuff

I see the "faced with cedar" are the 2x12 pine-grain doesn't look like pine.

I don't know what the 2x12's are, I don't do much buildin'. Cedar is just around outside.

Floors have their place, but this distracts from the beauty of the blackbuck in my opinion. Not my taste.

I had no other way to hang him. May not be ideal, but better than him just laying on the floor of the spare bedroom
