I've purchased a Honda Pioneer and plan to use it out on the hard ground. Do I need 8 or 10 ply tires, and do I need to seal them with anything? Never owned one before.

Ply won't matter if you seal them. Most UTv tires nowadays are 8 or 10 and to be honest, a few extra mm isn't going to stop a mesquite thorn. I'm running two different sets and have my duck tires sealed but I don't remember which seal it is… I need to go back and check.

Something to keep in mind is that when you add the sealant in the tires you're essentially adding a slug of liquid in the tires that you can feel at high speeds. Not a problem if you're never going that fast or on pavement but something to keep in mind as a tradeoff.

Thank you, I will start looking at sealants. The factory tires are 6-ply, 27" I believe, and sealed. I'm looking at Mongrels or something like them, 29", 2-3 inch bracket lift, etc.

That's a sweet setup but I will start with round wheels for my first rig, lol.

On the ranch I use LiquiSeal. In everything… UTV's, tractors, etc. Just about every rancher and farmer I know up here swears by it. It won't corrode or rust your rims and it's basically permanent.
It is expensive though.
I've tried a bunch of other brands but this works the best for me.

I run 10 ply Kevlar with a quality slime and have not had a flat or low tire in maybe 5-6 years, but I'm in Webb county. Put about 500 hours annually on my Ranger Crew diesel. It's in shop now for a new radiator, clutches and belts, motor and transmission mounts. About $6k worth of rebuild but much cheaper than a new one and a far superior machine.

Forgot to add the sealant that I use. The green cheap stuff freezes and you wake up on that one crisp morning to get to a blind to find four flat tires.

This on the rebuild and superior machine. Polaris just doesn't build them like the quality of yours anymore.

Definitely use some sort of slime inside the tire. And also keep a plug kit inside your glove box.

Yeah, I don't guess I mentioned that. I keep a little 12v air pump in the glove box as well, since I am sometimes many miles from anything.

Wow, thank y'all very much. Feel free to add anything else. I think as far as necessities west of 35/37, it's really gonna be about tire health. Everything else should fall into place over time.

I'm a little stuck on which windshield to get. Lots of variables there. Might be like binos and scopes, get quality glass. Do I get one I can open out? Will the cylinders hold up? Just speaking out loud. If y'all know anything to stay away from I'd love to hear it. Thanks again!

My Kubota has OEM windshield that tilts up and out to open. I partnered with BIL on this unit and got diesel because it's slower and BILs 25 yo son is a bull in a china closet. Unit is 1 1/2 yo and nephew already cracked windshield just doing what he does. Cost to replace will be close to $2000.
I put cheap fold in half plexiglass golf windshields on my Polaris that's all mine but I share with my kids . Cost is about $200-$300 and I'm on third one but they not too expensive. Plexiglass scratches easily and my ranch foreman likes to prepare unit for us by washing windshield with wet rag swirling sandy water across surface leaving scratches.
Glass better to see thru but more fragile in my situation.

I've seen those. Always figured that no flats is promising but wondered if out of balance from mud packed in unevenly would be a bigger to clean out or a heck of a rough ride.
