Dumb. They already have a name…. It's called winter. It gets cold in the winter.

And don't get me started on "Real Feel" temperatures.

Seems like every strong cold front has been named Crashy...

Feels like and heat index annoy the crap out of me. If it feels like 28 or 106, then it is 28 or 106

Wrong. Hurricane is under the Wind definition in homeowners forms, which is for all Wind losses, which is why homeowners carriers exclude all Wind for property that's on the coast where the risk of catastrophic losses are higher for Hurricanes. The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is what provides all Wind coverage for most dwellings on the coast.

They name Winter Storms for industry loss / tracking and reinsurance payments. Most large convective events (tornado and hail) are given numbers.

I am also annoyed at naming winter storms. However, it is helpful at work when we talk about problems from past winter storms to be able to refer to the different storms.

Hell, naming any storm is pretty stupid.
Just identify it by year and then whatever number it would be in the sequence, like 2025-1 for the first storm of this calendar year.
I guess there needs to be some kind of threshold to determine when it warrants an id. Yeah, just like for these winter storms. [eyeroll]

NAIC disagrees with you. Named storms can (depending on your policy and carrier) trigger different deductible amounts for damages. Wind isn't the only cause for damage by named storms.
