5 dogs. All 40+ pounds. All reduces and fosters. If I can sit on it, the dogs can too. They sleep on the beds with us. This wasn't always the case. We used to never allow it 20 years ago. We had dogs that lived 8 hours in a crate. They slept on the floor. I truly feel like I'll have to answer for that one day but we did the best we could.

We have 2 dogs.

100 Lb GSD / Basset mix. Floor dog only and he has 3 huge dog beds scattered around the house to accommodate his lounging habits

15 Lb 13" Beagle. He has full furniture and bed privileges.

Dog goes everywhere I go, and has seen more of this country than 95% of the people living in it. The only exception is my bed, he has his own tempur-pedic bed.

Quick story on why this is the case. I was over at a neighbors and we were bringing the cattle around. My dog was there running around and doing what dogs do, I wasn't paying attention to him (first mistake). When it gets time to leave I am already in the drivers seat (2nd mistake) and I yell at the dog to load up, he jumps in the bed, and off to the house we head. I managed to get grease all over me, so I run straight to the shower to get cleaned up (3rd mistake) and left the front door open for the dog to run in (4th mistake) when he was ready.

I walk out of the bathroom to see the dog laying in my bed... covered in cow sh*t. He rolled around in it like a 7th grade boy putting on cologne for the first time. The entire center of my king size bed looks like one flattened out cow turd. I rip the bedspread and sheets off as fast as I can, but it is too late. Cow chit has now soaked into the pillow top of the mattress and it is a total loss.

The next day and a couple of grand later I had a new bed, and a dog that now understood that was a no go zone.

No and no.

Friend of mine had an older dog. He was no and no also. One day the old dog (about 13) came in the living room, made eye contact with him, and just stepped up on the couch and laid down. That day he became no and yes. Just couldn't get after the old girl.

You don't tell them no/make them get off when they get on

My 65lb lab stays inside with us. She is not allowed on the furniture or beds. The kids bean bags on the floor are fair game. And, occasionally, I will put a blanket on an ottoman footrest we use for the couches, and invite her to curl up on it for a little bit. She has never pushed the boundaries. She also happily sleeps in her kennel at night, she very much prefers that. I've tried a dog bed on the floor in our room, and she just wanders and paces and then goes to lay in her kennel.

When we go camping, in the camper all bets are off, mostly because our camper is small and there really isn't floor space for her to take up. She climbs in with the kids bunks happily.

This, never had inside dogs growing up, but when I started dating my eventual wife, she already had a dog that was inside and got on furniture, on top of the bed, etc. He's a 9 pound terrier/poodle mix. Thought I was gonna at least get him to sleep in a crate instead of the bed after we got married but I'll let yall guess how that went. So he still runs the roost at our house, I just pay the mortgage so he can laze around all day and bark at passing cars.

We later got a lab/hound mix that is also a mostly indoor dog, but he doesnt get on the furniture or bed as he's 55-ish pounds, so at least that's a win.

Tucker sleeps on the end of our bed on his own blanket. But he doesn't get on any other furniture. Love the dog!

Not supposed to get on furniture but we have made the ottoman her bed, she still will go get on the couch and sleep at night. I scold her every time she's on the couch but she does it regularly, There's never any real punishment

Absolutely not in bed. My daughter has tried to get the dog to sleep with her in bed and we had to tell her no.

I have a sitting area just off the living room with a huge window with a great view. I bought a large chair for mine to sit in and it is designated as his spot. I put a game cam up once to see how long a day he sits there and it is about 6 to 7 hours a day he just sleeps and watches the tree rats torment him. Best decision ever.
