Trainer just called and said my chocolate lab had been limping so he took him to the vet for a check up. The Vet diagnosed him with 'Tibial Tuberosity Avulsion' in his left 'stifle' (ie knee) and said he needs surgery to repair or it will be a chronic issue the rest of his life. I'm just seeing $$ above my head but I'm planing to take him to my vet for a 2nd opinion. Has anyone had this diagnoses with their dog and if so, how was the outcome?

No idea what that injury or surgery cost is, but we did double ACL surgerys for our corgi in 2020 for 10x more than I ever thought I would spend on a dog. 5 years later I'm so glad we did it. Some people say they're just dogs, but if they're your best friend it's only money (within reason)

Did the same on two torn ACL's on our 3 year old lab. "Within reason" is dependent on the individual dog owners decision. What one man calls within reason may not be what another man calls it. At the end of the day it's your dog and can spend what you damn well want on it.

My vet says they usually respond well but you have to do the follow up and keep the dog restricted post.

Risk decreases as dog gets older. That is a growth area of bones and it will calcify as matures.

I just picked up my dog from the trainer and ya, he for sure favors his back left leg. I spoke with my veterinary two days ago, he looked at the x-rays and said for sure he needs surgery to fix the detached bone. They got in touch with an Orthopedic Vet today and this guy is saying too much time has passed since the injury occurred (only been less than 2 weeks) and that he will not do the procedure. Instead, they are referring me out to a specialist and I am waiting to hear back from them.

Question: Has anyone ever gone through the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital to have surgeries performed on their dogs? I just looked at their website and it looks like its on referral only. I asked my vet about this and waiting to hear back.
