Y'all should see the size of raccoons at at feed lot. Those coons eat a buffet of high density feed all night with beta agonists(optaflexx) and estrogen suppressants (MGA) in it and they get huge.

Note the tail of another raccoon on the right…so there's now two raccoons raking out feed. I can't make it back down there for a couple weeks due to a hand surgery today. Spike strips from boss Buck (via Amazon) arrived yesterday but doesn't help if I can't install them!

i believe my uncle welds 5/0 treble hooks on the legs of his feeders. havent talked to him since i heard that so cant report on the aftermath.

Slather about half an economy size jar of petroleum jelly on each leg.

For only $5 bucks this will keep the coons from climbing the legs for a year or so...

Greasing the legs was counterproductive for me. It was just what was needed for otherwise ordinary blows and to become traction in the legs.
The pvc sleeves were easy enough.

Golden Malrin mixed with coke in a bowl or pan. Not technically legal but it works. (heard it from a friend)

It will also kill non targeted species. Birds included. But you already know that.

It has a rank smell. They won't touch it. Opossums on the other hand will. Best bet it to put it out at dark and pick it up in the morning before buzzards get there. Buzzards don't touch it either though. Buzzards equals no deer for a while.

Not calling you out JJ, please understand that….but I had an experience that has stuck with me for years from someone using this stuff to kill coons.
Long story but condensed version was I was with my cousins family the day after Christmas at his deer lease for a fun cookout. They had just got a lab puppy the week before for Christmas for his kids.
We were doing a cook out down by a nice creek…. all the kids having fun with the pup etc. One of the kids came up and said the puppy was sick. Puppy had vomited and was drooling, yelping and shaking all over.
His wife suspected poisoning of some sort and so my cousin headed to the closest vet about 40 minutes away. Kids were crying, women were crying…it was a bad scene. The puppy went into a seizure and died before getting to the vet or at the vet…. I don't remember.
Unbeknownst to my cousin, someone, landowner, ranch foreman, ( no one person ever really did fest up to it) had put some pans of that stuff mixed with some soft drink to kill coons at a couple of places along that creek…. and the puppy found it.
It was really hard for him telling those kids their puppy was not coming home.
Left a bad lasting thing for me.

That would not to well for a deer that brushed against it.

As recommended above, put the bowl of red soda and fly bait near a feeder in the afternoon, pick up the bowl, and coons, the next morning. I knew a guy that did this at every feeder, twice a year, and he definitely put a damper on the coon population.

Paw traps are coon selective, you might get a possum, skunk or ringtail every once in awhile if you bait with cat or dog food but using corn will cut down on your non target catch.

Timed protein feeder has made a huge impact for me. I know free choice is "better" but the amount of feed waste is astronomical

This. We went to all timed bulk feeders many years ago It has many advantages. They will save lots of money on feed. It also helps with getting food to less dominant animals rather than " feeder hog" deer dominating the feeder.
By changing your feed times periodically it allows more random deer to be able to feed instead of just the dominant animals.
It also allows you to dispense the correct amount of lbs of feed per animal unit…. and forces them to graze and browse instead of just chowing down on the free choice constantly…. which in turn makes them more healthy than them becoming dependent on the constant supply of a free choice feeder.
Deer are like everything else….. especially democrats…..
they will take the easiest path and least amount of effort to eat.

I get that. I would be devastated if that was my dog. Dogs are scavengers like raccoons. But that's also why I don't let me dogs run free. I have had one get into rat poison. Luckily I caught it and was able to give him Vitamin K shot. All my feeders are fenced. Anything that drinks it will certainly die. Malrin smells like a dead animal so I see how a dog would be attracted to it.
