I'm also curious about the details of the case. A 14 year plea deal is insane. I can't imagine what kind of evidence they must have had. And I wonder how she survived, was she able to fight enough to run away, did someone intervene? An attempted murder charge is pretty unique for a domestic violence incident.

I saw the charges posted on the other thread. It was assault with restricted breathing, so he choked her. Attempted murder. He also threatened to kill her. Someone posted that he choked her and threatened to kill her after she called 911 and the call was still going while this all happened, so it was recorded at dispatch. Not sure if the 911 recording is true or not.

But none of that is attempted murder. You don't have to be Johnny Cockran to show this is just a Tuesday for this guy. He'd been arrested for the same three times over the years. Think about all the times he probably choked her and didn't get arrested. He probably tells her he's going to kill her all the time. Look I'm not saying it's the healthiest of hobbies but the results are always the same, she's still alive. It was his wife, he'd have plenty of opportunities to kill her if he wanted her dead.

Something was different this time.
My guess is cameras or kid witnessed. Aggie or not this guy can rot imo.

When I read the original post on the premium board I knew it wasn't health related, but wasn't sure what else it would be. I definitely wasn't expecting attempted murder and 14 years in jail as why we wouldn't hear from him again. Just a lot of strange things in that thread. Legalize it posting in the thread. His supposedly new wife posting from his account. Then finding out he took a plea deal for 14 years in prison.

I wouldn't be surprised if the baby momma had done or said some terrible things. That is no excuse for what legalize it did(I think we can assume he did it). There is a way to handle these things and it isn't violence.

That's HIGHLY suspect.

An elementary school teacher w/ 3 kids from another guy posting on the internet about getting engaged/married to a guy that's headed to jail in weeks/hours very likely does NOT know what she's doing.

In Hood County there are these:

1. Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance - Conner Ryan Darland, defendant, did then and there, knowingly prevent or interfere with CB's ability to place an emergency call or to request assistance.

2. Terroristic Threat of Family - Conner Ryan Darland, defendant, did then and there threaten to commit an offense involving violence to CB.... namely, that the defendant stated he was gonig to kill CB.

3. Violation of bond conditions - Conner Ryan Darland, did intentionally and knowingly communicate directly with CB, a protected individual in a threatening or harassing manner, namely by calling and sending text messages to her cellular phone.

4, ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT
DARLAND, CONNER RYAN
Level - Third Degree Felony

Yeh imagine you are that lady's mom and dad... what do you think they are thinking? I highly doubt they are supportive of this marriage.

I know the judge.

He gave him till 1pm to make a decision if they wanted to plea or not. The court was in the process of picking out the jury.

He came back later that day and took the plea deal as a married man. Caught everyone off guard.

14 years (less good behavior time) is a lot less than looking at life imprisonment.

Hood County can be tough - I was on a jury once for a 6th DWI. We were lucky to agree to 75 years. Some ladies on the jury didn't want to go below 99.

Can someone explain how bond works? September 2023 $20,000. July 2024 $100,000.

If you come back and take that plea deal there has to be some damning evidence against you.

Yeah, why would anyone take a plea deal for 14 years if this was just a he said/she said type of deal?

Yep - and our prosecutor is pretty rock solid as well. Judge never saw anything obviously because he took the deal.

GigemJTH12 - I think the stacking charges would have added a lot of years, which would have been close to a life imprisonment if they all carried is my guess.

The threat of a jail sentence with a jury that you can't control or BS like you've been doing to everyone else... has the opportunity to make you do some deal making real quick.

In the case that I was on... that guy could have saved some serious years had he taken the plea. A hostile jury is no bueno!

life in prison for attempt??

Capital Murder is a capital offense with punishment being either death or life without parole.

Attempted Capital Murder lowers the degree by one making it a 1st degree felony with a punishment range of 5-99 years or life with possibility of parole.

Yes, a life sentence was on the table.

It was posted earlier that the 911 dispatcher had a recording of at least some of it.

Either she does know what she is doing or she shouldn't have custody of those 3 kids nor have a job as a teacher.

If her dad isn't involved it would explain the new bride's decision to have a 7am marriage to a felon.

If she knew what she was doing, as a school teacher, she'd not have posted online about her engagement to a guy headed for jail.

She'd also have known not to post online about her 7AM wedding.

But again, all of these people feel the need to air out way too much of their lives online.

No, she posted on her FB about getting engaged to a guy with multiple arrests.

Which is mostly how people knew who she was.

Again- you absolutely shouldn't do that.

Not what you want from your kid's ELA teacher.
