The first weekend of 3-in-a-row Able Outddors hunts wrapped up yesterday and it went by so fast! We showed up in Pearsall on Thursday, the day after 3" of rain that broke a year-long drought, to set up a blind to get ready for Chelsi to go on her first ever turkey hunt.
I think she might be a little spoiled now because we saw so many good toms and had 3-4 close encounters that first day, just couldn't get a shot. The toms were cruising and gobbling like crazy and following hens but no dice when it came to closing the deal.
On Saturday we moved her to a different spot and she got her shot during the evening hunt. The bird ran off wounded and died and we almost didn't find him, but a game warden friend of mine (who was invited to dinner) showed up and went right to him!
Congratulations young lady! Welcome to the brotherhood.
