Kinda sad that the Bison are now considered as an invasive species in Colorado by their own wildlife agencies, where once they covered much of the land there.
Man has truly changed a lot of our natural resources.

The best ribeye I ever had was from a bison we harvested.

Same for elk in Texas

Is this true - TPWD considers elk in Texas as invasive?

Yep. Elk are no different from hogs as far as game laws in the state of Texas. Can shoot em at night out of a helicopter with hand grenades if you want.

They were considered a game animal in Texas until 1997.
Then the Texas legislature changed them to be considered an exotic animal and are considered as alternative hoofstock in Texas.
You must have a valid hunting license in Texas to hunt them.
They are under the same guidelines as livestock in Texas. If Elk are stolen off ranches and are ear marked or branded for identification the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Rangers have the authority to investigate.
They can be hunted at anytime as long as the landowner gives permission but they have to be hunted by legal means.

Gunny said much better than I as expected. Lol...

Here is copy paste from the Texas Outdoor Annual as it pertains to exotics (including elk).

"Non-Protected and/or Exotic Species
On private property, there are no required means and methods of take, state bag or possession limits, or closed seasons (hunting hours) on exotic animals, exotic fowl or other species not included in any of the previously addressed categories.

Exotic Animals and Fowl
An exotic animal is any animal that is not indigenous to Texas, including but not limited to aoudad sheep, axis deer, elk, sika deer, fallow deer, red deer, and blackbuck and nilgai antelope. An exotic fowl is any avian species that is not indigenous to Texas and is also not protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, including but not limited to ratites (emu, ostrich, rhea, cassowary, etc.). Hunting License required.

It is unlawful to:
hunt an exotic without a valid hunting license (Class C misdemeanor);
hunt an exotic on a public road or right-of-way. (Class A misdemeanor);
hunt an exotic without the landowner's permission. (Class A misdemeanor); or
possess an exotic or the carcass of an exotic without the owner's consent (Class A misdemeanor)."

Not to derail. Grem. A couple of guys up here want to come fish down in Texas along the coast. I have told them to call you as I had your number from another post.
It will probably be in April. They are bass guys up here and know how to fish but have never been to saltwater.
They just want the experience and to catch anything. (Fish I mean.)
They are great guys, ranchers up here. Good shape. In their early 50's.
I told them to tell you they were my friends.
One of them has some bottom land on the Bryant River up here and would probably tell you to come turkey hunt.
You can stay with us if you do.
Ok… back to the topic

Outstanding.
I started as a bass fisherman so guiding them cooky bass dudes is something else. Lol

I'm all about any adventure to do anything.
Send me a message and I can reply with my card.

I'm posting this for a friend of mine in Northeast Colorado who has one of his trophy ten year old bulls offered for a hunt. Last year's top bull went to a Georgia hunter & that same hunter is returning this year for a 15 year old bull. Generally his hunts are sold at regional sportsman's & hunting shows which he will still attend but I suggested him to give the Tex Ag's site a try also. I know nothing about the hunt other than it needs to take place by the end of March. If you want contact information feel free to pm me & I will provide you with his contact info.

To each his own. But, the pipe fence in the background? My own says no way I'd engage in that.
Space may be the final frontier, but it’s made in a Hollywood basement.

Somebody dig up the Alaska thread where the guy had to raft back to civilization after killing a bison. That was a hell of a read.
