I don't have a dog in this fight and I think most sightings of rare or non existent animals are incorrect.

But I will say I've been going to the same property in Webb county since I was a little kid (I'm 43 now). I've never seen a badger on that property until last year. We've never had any game cam pics of one either (been using cams for the last 15-20 years). So that's a good 37 years with multiple trips per year (a lot of time in deer stands), and I've only seen one once.

So who knows, maybe there are a few jaguarundi in South Texas, maybe not.

Last sighting for a Jaguarundi in Texas was 1986.
Officially maybe. But they have been spotted often in south Texas for many years. They are never reported because of the fear that agricultural and oil production operations will be interrupted by overzealous protectors.
This is fact. No rancher wants to report a sighting due to what it will trigger. I've seen photos of jaguarundi in Starr County from a rancher friend taken on his property. No way in hell he would every make an official sighting report. Now, how far north they range from the Starr, Cameron, Hidalgo County areas is certainly up for debate but to deny their existence in the RGV is extremely ignorant.

What is fact? They have been spotted "often" for "many" years? Where is the evidence? Landowner secrecy is always the excuse and I'm sure that sentiment is common and arguably legitimate. In my mind ignorance is denying the evidence, or in this case the extreme lack of, confirmed sightings but stating the presence as fact. Just show the doubters the photos. The thought that there is a cabal of scared landowners keeping secret this supposed viable jaguarundi population seems far-fetched.

It's bigfoot, 8-foot rattlesnakes, black panthers, etc. Show the photos. Otherwise, you can't use absolutes.

I still remember the Harley Berg Show. He had a jaguarundi on his show back in the 60's. It looked like a big black cat with a large tail on meth.

I would have to go with a Black Fox also.

I may be the nation's expert on all things related to bobcats, jaguarundis, jaguars, cougars (both four legged and two legged), as well as the seemingly elusive black panther (I have taken nearly a dozen, but no photographs out of respect for the deceased).

Let me say right up front, few, if any, possess my experience and astute observations. But even an amateur can pretty plainly see that is a picture of a catamaran.
