Looking into dipping my toes into the waters of NRL 22 and PRS style .22LR shoots and want to stay at the base class level.

I'm looking at the Ruger Precision Rimfire, Bergara BMR Steel, or a Tikka T1X. The CZ 457 looks pretty awesome, but I hate the barrel isn't threaded.

Any of those 3 that you'd pick over the others? The Bergara taking Remington 700 style triggers is pretty intriguing. The Ruger seems to be a lot of gun for the $$$ though.

Anyone tinkered with 22NRL?

Some of the CZs are threaded and they are excellent along with the tikka

Consider the magazines. Make sure you can get some for whatever you buy.

One of the biggest pluses to the Ruger is it the compatibility with 10/22 mags.

I shoot Tikka in base and it's a dead ringer. It shoots way better than I do. I currently have it paired with a Bushnell Pro scope. The scope is okay. It's on the better end of the scopes in base class, but it isn't phenomenal. That is where you see the real big different between base class and open division. I have an open class PRS rifle and my glass on that rifle costs 2 times what my entire setup in NRL costs together.

Of the ones you listed Ruger would be dead last by a decent margin. My daughter shoots one and it isn't very good. The only reason she shoots it is because it has a highly adjustable stock and it was cheap. She also doesn't shoot a ton or I would have bought her something better already, and honestly I still might.

Tikka has won the base class at NRL nationals several years. I actually shoot with the kid (young man now) who won it with a base Tikka. This last season is the first year he moved on from shooting his base Tikka to something else. His dad shoots his base Tikka now and the only thing they've done to it from the factory is sent it off to Lapua for ammo lot testing. The rifles just flat out shoot.

Both CZ and Bergara have great options that fit into the base range that come threaded. Just don't forget to factor in the budget for your scope. That is going to eat up a good portion of your budget as well.

I will warn you, don't get into NRL to save money versus PRS. It isn't any cheaper, it is a money sink just like all of the other shooting sports. It is an absolute blast though and the people are great. Also don't let the misnomer of Base class fool you. The competition isn't any easier. The level there is just as good there as anywhere else in the league. You also won't save money long term. 95% of the guys in base class end up moving to open division long term because they are unhappy with something about their base class rifle and want to class up. Most of the time it is either the stock or glass.

I shoot a Ruger Precision Rimfire both ARA and PRS and love it. Just recently upgraded my scope from a Burris 3-9 to an Arken EP5 5-25. Scores in ARA went from 1300 to 1500 to 2100 to 2300 in two matches. Have my first PRS match with the new scope coming up. I really like the RPR, though I have shot a CZ and a Bergara that were available at a match as loaners. I went with the Ruger after comparing the three as loaners. I have shot my RPR in 15 matches now plus practice and not a problem yet. I use the 15 round mags at practice but 10 round mags in matches. Should probably change that. I have not tried the 25 round mags with it, keep those for my 10/22 and Charger for fun.

Edit to add: my only complaint is the length of pull seems short for me despite being set at the max.

I shoot NRL matches at Great Plains as well.

Edit, brain fart, we've met and IIRC your daughter shot my Vudoo at a bench rest match two summers ago.

Yep. Hopefully we'll get back out there more often at some point. She plays travel flag football now and that has consumed our weekends.

1st ARA Rimfire benchrest match is Saturday, May 3, 8:00 AM if you want to come shoot.

Also, response to OP. CZ or Tikka if you want to stick to a budget. The RPR can be good or bad or in between from what I've seen. The CZ and TIkka are all good shooters. I've got a T1X I shoot ARA Baseclass with and it's very consistent.
