Weber Summit owner here. 14 years and going strong. I have replaced nothing. Clean it once a year and it looks brand new afterwards. The cooking grates are stainless and could be used as a drag harrow they are so sturdy. It wasn't cheap when I bought it but the way it is built I will probably never have to buy a new grill again.

There are two types, one is the porcelain coated that comes on the less expensive lines, the other is the stainless.

All of mine were porcelain and now replaced with stainless. Just ordered the replacement cooking grates.

Should be good for another 10 years. Although I do want better casters than that cheap plastic crap.

Had a Weber Genesis 4-burner for 10+ years and it was great. I replaced the grates once and had zero issues. But I got bored with gas and went with a Weber Kettle several years ago- the standard 22" one and loved it. I've since replaced that with the 26" Master Touch charcoal because the size allows not just for cooking more at once but putting the heat farther away from whatever I'm cooking and better temperature control.

I love playing with different types of charcoal and wood for a more "live fire cooking experience." Gas is great for convenience but there's something primal about cooking over a real fire. I want one of the big Santa Maria-style setups to really get into it.

My upper end Genesis came with porcelain flavorizer bars. Used them for over 12 years. When I went to replace them and the burners, Webers customer service rep asked how I cooked and if I used a lot of dry rubs when grilling. The reason was because he said the salts in the rubs caused them to rust faster and said that the porcelain would be ok.
However I replaced them with stainless and they have already rusted. Never have had either one catch fire though.

What the heck is a "flavorizer"?

Weber has the best warranty out there hands down. They essentially replaced half of a grill that I purchased used just by giving them a call.

They are angled covers that go over your burners so grease doesn't drip on the burner holes. Supposedly the drippings drip on them and sizzle and smoke to add flavor to your eats. Hince flavorizer. A Weber marketing term.

Its just the shield over the burner to help disperse heat and to keep the burner tube's from being clogged up from drippings. It's a dumb name.

I guess they changed, the ones that came with my grill 9-years ago had some coating on them and all it did was catch grease and catch on fire. Huge pita. Hated the damned grill b/c I had to just constantly monitor it for flair ups. once I switched to SS and seasoned them, no more fires.

I've had a 3 burner Genesis for 5 years now and it's been great. But, the best "upgrade" I did was get a natural gas version and ran a line out to the patio. Haven't had to think about propane tanks for years.
