I have 15 total acres between Anderson and Navasota that I would like to offer to anyone in the area interested in bailing hay. The bailable area is probably 10-11 acres. It is native grass. A combo of rye and I believe bluestem, but I am not 100% sure. I do know that it isn't behia so that is a positive.

I am just trying to retain Ag exemption, and would rather produce hay than run a few head of cattle. I realize this is not a large tract, so the 'lease' would be free. I would expect the grass would be ready for a good cut in a month or so.

Text me at 3six1-Six49-2o7four if interested.

Not exactly. I don't own any cattle. It will just be overgrazed with any number of cattle worth someone's time to haul out there. Its not good for the land to have it eaten down to dirt every year.

One bordering neighbor has roughly 20-25 head of cattle.

As B1-83 asked about neighbors, why not let them graze it for a month or two and whenever you have grass? This would work with the understanding he moves them out when you decide? Of course this scenario depends on your fences.

Might need him to pay a little(or have a simple lease agreement) to prove Ag use, but I could be wrong.

Grazing is certainly a Plan B and has been done in the past, but my exemption is for hay. I would imagine that someone is going to check up on that eventually.

Shouldn't make a difference. As a matter of fact, those cattle, at that number, might do a fine job of clean up and stomping in with a few week grazing time.

I think you have the right approach. Find someone to bale it. Put a simple lease in place with them. I'd try to find someone in the area that already bales hay and then when they spray their pasture for weeds they can come knock out yours.

Cows are a mess and it's harder to control the quality of the grass in your pasture if you have cows as opposed to someone that will spray for weeds when appropriate and will bale it when it's ready. I'd also make sure that your tenent has an obligation to remove the hay after it's been cut.

I lease out 40 acres for hay. My deal is the guy sprays it for weeds and fertilizes it. Then he bales it.
He gets 1/2 of the bales and buys the rest from me at an agreed price per bale every year. Works great and I don't do anything but count the bales.
It's pretty common in our area for contract bale'rs to work that way and I get 3-4 calls a year from guys wanting to do that.
Maybe go by your local Farm CO-OP or feed store and post a poster or ask them for referrals?

I have 17 acres east of Anderson and have a guy that bales hay for me. He handles the hay, shreds, sprays for weeds/fertilizes , etc. I get the ag exemption. Send me a message and I'll share his info. He would at least know of someone if he can't do it.
