And then theres the whole RealID thing now you have to get or you cant fly. That was a p.i.a. since I was born in Cali and they wouldnt take my original birth certificate. You have to have the one with a seal on it and multiple forms of ID. I hope you already had that before or youre in for a treat.

I was born in Alaska and no issues getting a TX Real ID.

It's not difficult.

The County judge and the clerks couldn't have been more helpful. He saw me off schedule and I was out of there by noon with the orders to send in to the DPS and my temporary occupation license. He out no restrictions on it as long as I use a log book and don't 'drive to the club.' All 254 counties.

He also had no answer for anything the DPS does. I asked him why it went from two years to 90 days suspended and he said he had no idea. An attorney that was listening basically said the DPS do what they do.

Anyway big step forward thanks to some reasonable minds.

I haven't had quite the horror stories here thankfully, but one thing I have learned in my time on this earth is that it is incredibly common for the various branches of our government to have no real idea how each other's work, even though they ostensibly are supposed to work together.

So we sit in this incredibly complex web of bureaucracy and administration where the left arm has no idea what the right arm is doing or why and both arms actions are affecting you nonetheless. Often at odds with one another. I also feel the frustration mirrored here on this thread on the whole topic and have quite a bit of second hand experience with friends and family getting screwed in similar ways. Law abiding citizen has a small slip up that they truly try to fix and quickly and have to jump through a series of increasingly smaller and smaller rings until they get stuck and then get hammered in the rear because they got stuck and have no idea how to get through and apparently no one does either at the working levels of government.

I will also say that in my experience, local politicians can be JUST as scummy as our federal ones. Maybe even more so.

Just had to add to the rant.

Random but related question - after a deferred disposition for a speeding ticket, do they send you an official notice that the period is over?

It's been years since I have had a speeding ticket and can't remember. It's been like 6 months since it was over but this thread is scaring me since I never received a notice after period was over.

iirc you are supposed to go in at the end and sign something saying you didn't get a ticket or the like but I might be mixing up defensive driving and deferred

That's exactly what has happened. To add to the point about the left arm not knowing what the right arm is doing…

The reason I got the Driving with license invalid ticket in the first place instead of the driving with license expires was a failure to appear from CS was reported in what I think he called the Omni system??? Let's call it that.

Anyway that's the system that local courts report things to forcing you to pay up when you renew your DL. However the system doesn't specify whether or not it was a moving violation or a parking violation which matters a lot when determining whether or not you have a suspended license. So the other side sees this and writes the ticket even though it wasn't a moving violation.

The solution…. You hire an attorney to clarify it with the judge and the ticket either gets changed to driving with expired or outright dismissed. But if you don't…….and you just paid it…….you end up in my shoes. That's pretty much exactly how in roundabout ways it was explained to me today by the judge and my attorney. Just crazy.

I had a lot of success today getting back on the road but I still don't have a full DL. I have to carry this stupid sr-22 insurance. I can't rent a car. I can't drive out of State. I'm still guilty of DWLI and have an appeal on June 12. My attorney thinks that he will be able to get something to happen pretty quickly.

This whole deal just makes me wonder if maybe the Mexicans and Latin American countries do it more efficiently … just pay off the officer on the spot and be done with it.

I got the shake down from a Nuevo Laredo cop one time that cost me $40. And I was actually breaking the law. This has cost me $3800 so far.

Im going with the Mexicans right now.

Yep, have paid off "Transito" cops in two different Mexican cities. No muss, no fuss and got to where we were going on-time.

For an update,

I went to municipal court June 12 to appeal the conviction and the judge and prosecutors were easy to deal with. When the prosecutor learned that the cause of the suspension was from a parking ticket she just rolled her eyes and frowned at my attorney. Judge said y'all come up with a solution I'm out of here and left. Conviction vacated.

Of course the DPS is slower than molasses updating their system. It still shows up and I can't go get my regular license yet. Their customer service lady who was actually very nice said it would be 7-10 business days. Today is day 9. I did get my temporary occupational license in the mail so at least I have that.

I also started my new job last Tuesday and so far am really enjoying it. By the time I have to rent a car or drive out of State this should all be completely behind me.

Amazing amount of cost and resources over this. But thanks to all of y'all for handling my complaint. And special thanks to the people on the side who gave me a little more insight into what was happening those first couple of days.

Glad it is mostly sorted out for you.

I can see how things happen. I recently received a new cell number/line for a discount at ATT. The guy who had it before is either a dead beat or having bad luck. Random text yesterday from someone was to them sharing a warrant notice from the JP for a moving violation. I may keep the number for awhile to see what else is happening
