The damage is absolutely astounding.

One of the reasons I decided to live in the west central portion of New Mexico is the incredibly small incidence of tornado's. Especially since I am over 7000' elevation.

Interesting. I used to live in NM and loved it while there. However, the crime rate has exploded since then and the state government has gone wacky blue. Do those not affect or bother you?

We had a above ground unit (garage) in our first Oklahoma home and now a in ground shelter in the floor of our garage here in our second home. Just knowing you have a safe place to go takes a lot of stress off of you. Since moving up here to Tulsa from Houston I can honestly say the weather folks here are top notch! We follow Travis Meyer on the local CBS station. Amazing how they can accurately predict where and when it's going to hit.

Yes sir. In our area we tune to KY3 in Springfield and Ron
Hirsch. If there are any active tornadoes in their listening area they stop all normal programming and will stay live in the weather room till all threats end. They have been amazingly accurate. He knows the area so well he will talk about distinct landmarks to tell folks exactly what the track of the storms etc.

The crime is only a problem when I go into ABQ, which is a mess for sure.
I live in a very rural county, and there is not much crime.

We've got a pretty good 2nd amendment group that does a good job with our (D) legislature.

We do have a state income tax, but the property tax and sales tax are pretty low.

Overall for me, NM works, but you don't want be in the cities if at all possible. I'm retired, so that helps.

Have a family member on the wife's side that is a LEO in NM for the state. He said folks would be surprised at the number of meth houses that are in rural NM….. and folks never know they are there. Especially around Elephant Butte and Chama.
