Blackstone Griddle Question, Cleaning?

Howdy, I resisted the Griddle craze until this Christmas when two of three SILs and one Grandson got them, so caved and got the 17" Blackstone (there are just two of us do not need a huge one). Seasoned with the Blackstone products, twice. Grill surface nice and black.

Cleaning: After use I scrape, use a paper towel on an after market griddle cleaning pad, reheat and lightly oil with Avocado Oil, and wipe down again. The towels always have this Heavy, Black grease on them.

Question: Every time I try and cook on it the griddle surface puts Heavy, Black grease on the food, bad taste, discolors the food. Whadayall do to clean prior to griddling?

Need to figure this out or the griddle is going to become a fishing weight, THANKS!

Heat it up and spray water on the surface. Wipe w/ paper towels.

I'll do this along with scraping if I didn't do a good post cooking cleaning. I'll do a light reoil before cooking to,keep,from scorching

This. I do this every time, and re-oil, and it works well.

As others have said, wipe with wet paper towels while still hot, then scrape. Don't oil and then just leave it. When I have accidentally left grease or oil on it before, that's when I get that black rancid stuff. I keep it clean and dry, and just oil before I cook, and it's all good!

Every couple of cooks, I heat it up as hot as it will get, and wipe on a thin layer of oil. Then, let it heat up and smoke off until it stops smoking. That adds a little more non-stick power.

I use water + scraper and paper towels while still hot, then put a thin layer of the blackstone oil stuff on there. Paper towels can leave a bit of lint, Costco ones seem to be some of the better ones, some folks use shop towels. I also have one of those silicone things that fit over the cooking area when not in use since it stays in my garage.

You might look at doing a deeper clean to get most of the oil off and then give it a fresh seasoning.

There are 10x the articles on Reddit about cleaning and taking care of them than actually cooking on the thing.

Agree with not adding oil after cleaning. I tried that method for the first couple months and the seasoning on the griddle eventually started flaking off. I think the layer just built up too thick. I just scrape and clean with a damp paper towel.

Water works if you got the porcelain coated upgrade. Otherwise, clean it like anything else.

Refer to your owners manual as the cooking surface you bought will dictate the cleaning method.

Howdy, y'all are GREAT, this heating, water and wiping REALLY helps! Hindsight being what it is I would NEVER, ever, never use that Blackstone stuff again to season a griddle. It has left the heaviest, blackist, foul stuff on the surface possible! I have a new Lodge skillet to season and I will go back to using grape seed or avocado oil to season it!
