It's not Coors Light and Crocs in a hunting blind, or fine whisky and good music on a back porch. But, it is my little slice of heaven tonight.

I haven't posted for a while, so I just wanted to drop a proof of life and say Howdy to you fine gents and gals! (And to the rest of you knuckleheads too)

It's been a VERY long last few weeks. We have had a few deaths in the family, including my Uncle who I was very close with (more like a grandfather).
And my wife's 95 year old grandfather fell this morning and broke a few ribs and fractured his skull. I think he will recover, but it's scary stuff.
I've also been dealing with a whole pile of pressures and problems at work- most of which were avoidable if people would just listen and take their time with decisions. But, I've been running around making lemonade as best I can.

Couple that with the normal family, kid, house chores and I haven't felt like I've slept well in about a month. And I'm building my wife a chicken coop in all my free time…

I decided to take some time tonight to just relax, pray, and reflect on what is most important. I've been thinking through all the wins and victories I've seen in the last 2 months, regardless of how small. Taking time to reflect and grieve on what has been lost, and appreciate what can still be found.

Hopefully I'll be able to get out on an OB worthy adventure again one of these days! Till then, I'll raise my glass to you all, and thank God for my innumerable blessings.

Glad to see you back. And a timely post. A friend posted on FB today about how hard it is to rest, but even Jesus saw the need to take time to get away and rest. He talked about how hard it is to stop working when we see so many things we need to do. I read that this morning and have been thinking about it all day. I see Jesus not so much as getting away to "rest" in a physical sense, but to spend time alone with God. Too many times I rush through life, working hard to do all the things I think no one else in the world can do as well as me and telling God how I think He should help me. While I do think God wants us to gather together, I think His best work for me is done One on one. Because that seems to be the time when I listen to Him better. As I have gotten older, I spend a lot of days sitting outside by myself at sunset. Those are the times when I actually feel I have a conversation with God rather than telling Him what I want. Some nights I never say anything but "thank you." And on those nights it is enough. My prayer is that your rest gives you what you need. Matthew 11:28-30

Thank you for posting this. Reminds me that I need to spend some time alone and talk with the man instead of talking at the man.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

Never a bad think to watch a fire burn. It's an enjoyable satisfying experience with the adult beverage of your choice.

There are very few things better than campfire smoke to heal the mind!
