No doubt. I lost a younger cousin in a very sudden and public accident. While riding in the funeral limo on the way to the cemetery with her parents and brother we got stuck behind a white Guaranteed Overnight Delivery truck that said G.O.D. in big black letters. We felt He was speaking to us. We were also worried she may have suffered during the incident. When we got home the kitchen clock was stopped at the exact time of the incident. It gave us some comfort that she didn't suffer.

Derm- I'm very sorry for your family's loss. We in Galveston have been praying for Mary Grace, Blakely, and the other children's safe return. F92

I've been to Hunt, but never to Camp Mystic so this is all speculation. I believe the cabins for Guadalupe camp are circled below, meaning for them to find shelter outside the cabins (which were being inundated) they would have to cross the small dam to the south.

Five of us had the chance to go out and help in the recovery efforts yesterday. We were working with, of all places, the Doss Volunteer Fire Department. Searched the area of the two RV parks that were washed away. Pictures do not do it justice. Extremely painstaking work. Multiple groups on their hands and knees digging through debris. At one point we were up at least 15' - 20' doing anything we could to pull debris piles apart. Later in the day the large excavators were able to get down to the river and then across to the island we were working. That will help efforts now they they have more of those available. We also had a huge influx of state and federal departments join later in the day. It reminded me of the day after Bonfire fell. Lots of work going on and suddenly stop to listen or find someone. Completely surreal.

We continue to keep everyone in our prayers, including all of the search and rescue folks.

The cabins you circled are up on a hill, where the older campers stay. They would not have evacuated those cabins.

What you circled there is what they call "senior hill". All the girls were safe in this area, although they were trapped by the bridge yes.

This is an accurate map of the camp site. The two cabins in red, Twins and Bubble Inn are where the majority of children were lost. There was one child in a different cabin in that area, reportedly "Jumble House"

That's senior hill. It is part of the Guadalupe camp but the waters didn't get up there. "The flats" is where the younger campers were and is down where the tennis courts and dining hall are.

As of this morning, the figure is that five camp girls and a counselor have not yet been recovered.



To the best of my knowledge, the counselor is Katherine, and the girls are Ellen, Kellyanne, Virginia, Cile, and Margaret S.

Again choosing not to list their last names but all are girls whose images were circulated immediately after the floods.

Prayers to the families whose last hopes are recovering their girls to lay them to rest. An absolutely unimaginable situation to be in.

I have been following this thread since Friday and although I do not personally know any of these children or families my heart is absolutely broken. I never attended Camp Mystic but I did used to go to church camp in Kerrville as a kid. I will continue to pray for these families and am going to go to Hobby Lobby to get pink ribbon.

Looking at these maps of the camp and reading the information here, I know lots of girls were evacuated to the Rec Hall and Wiggle Inn girls floated in their cabin. Did the girls in Giggle evacuate or were they able to stay in their cabin? Just curious since they were between Wiggle and Bubble.

We only know details from first hand accounts right now. There were posters here confirming that Wiggle Inn girls stayed in their bunks and Chatterbox girls left on foot to higher ground. We may not know those details unless a family reports their child's first hand experience.

Twins and Bubble do not have vaulted ceilings. No cabin, including chatterbox, etc. had ever flooded in the 99 years of Mystic

The cabins appear to all be there post flood. The videos of the whole cabins floating around were at the boys camp and all of those boys were safe. A parent of a little girl in Wiggle Inn reported they stayed in their cabin during the storm. A family member of a little girl in the Chatterbox cabin told us that the counselors led them up on hill on foot, with some other cabins as well. We simply do not have the details of exactly how it transpired that some girls did not make it.

They are quoting 700 but I wonder if that is the total of both the main Mystic campground and the secondary one.

There are 23 cabins at the Guadalupe river Camp Mystic. With 15 or so girls in each cabin I simply don't know how that adds up to 700.

It's going to be both camps. I worked in the office at one of the other major camps in Hunt and each term was ~300. Had dances each term with the old section of Mystic camp (Cypress Lake wasn't built yet) and they had a similar number.

From what I can gather, this may have been what Dick was trying to do before the tragedy fully struck. There appears no other place to drive girls from Bubble Inn

Derm, so many people here have expressed beautifully loving, compassionate, and spiritual condolences to you and to others who have lost family members and friends, and I join them. I am profoundly sorry for your family's loss. I will continue to pray fervently for all of you to find comfort and peace through your admirably strong faith in our Lord and in the emotional embrace of countless Aggies and others who have commented here, many of whom you have never met but feel love for you.

I also want you to know that I confidently believe that you are an instrument of the Holy Spirit through your sharing with us the unwavering strength of your faith in our Lord throughout this incomprehensible tragedy. You and others here have encouraged a renewal of my relationship with God and inspired me to become closer to Him.

I will never forget Mary Grace, her precious camp sisters, and all the other victims of the flood who have passed on to eternal joy and spiritual fulfillment in heaven. I will joyously meet them one day, together with being reunited with my beloved family members and friends who have preceded me in completing their faith journey. May God embrace you and your family with His love and give you peace.

My girls have been at Cypress Lake since it opened (this was the first year not there). For those asking about numbers. I believe CL is 200+ and Guadalupe is 500+. As the cabins get older, they open up more slots. Some of the older cabins have 25+ kids sleeping on bunk beds, etc. at Guadalupe. CL still has spots available, but Guadalupe is at capacity every session, every year.

I hope/believe they will reopen. My daughter is adamant that she will be a counselor next year. One more piece of information that I can recall. There were some cabins that flooded in the '32 flood when it got up to the footings of the Dining Hall. But those cabins were torn down and all of the modern cabins are several feet higher than the 1932 high water mark. Britt (Dick's son) told me that story when he gave us the tour during Covid in 2020 before my girls had their first session at Cypress Lake.

I read on a friend's Facebook page that Mary Grace's parents have asked that people who wish to pay tribute tie a pink ribbon around a tree in her honor this week. He went on to say that he'd pass the photos along to the family.

I think it would be great if we posted pictures on TexAgs for DermDoc to share with his family.

Please post here for all to see.
