Anyone here like Swiss Army knives?

I've had different knives over the years - but I have always loved Swiss Army knices, since I was a teen. The Wenger brand is no longer around really, and that was my original favorite in the 1980s.

Anyway, I've always preferred swiss army knives over carrying just a regular folding knife. I find the other tools come in handy.

I've even given my son one a few years back. And, now I have 4 of them currently.

Several years ago -Victorinox replaced one knife that I broke a blade on - and sent me a different model (since the one I had was a discontinued model). That's the one on the bottom right. And, they also did an "upgrade" on one, and changed all the pieces and the outter (red) plastic parts on the upper right one.

Many may not realize, but for a small fee, you can send you knife in and have it serviced if you have a problem.

I just picked up the yellow one in the past week. It's essentially the same model as the red one next to it on the right, but it has a blade lock, and had little rubber pads on the sides.

I wish I still had a couple of the older ones I had from decades ago. Not sure what happened to them. I know I have broken a few blades over the years removing staple gun staples at outdoor shooting ranges. If you do it enough, the knife eventually breaks.

I have a Classic (National Park series, Joshua Tree NP) clipped to my keychain, so I literally never leave home without one.

I would like to get more, but really cannot justify buying anymore. I gave in on buying the yellow one, just because of the color

I keep one at work. I can only carry 1 at a time, and in reality, none of them are that different. As most are $50 or more, there is no point in me going out and getting crazy to buy many more. But, for some reason, I WANT more

I had a friend in the late 80s that had a huge one, that was very expensive. It basically had every tool in 1 knife. But, it was so thick that it was not something you could idealy carry in your pocket. So, I've never chased after one that size. It was too hard to open a tool when the knife was that thick.

I've got one of the Swiss military issue ones (and several other US ones). Will try to figure out which box it's in. Still unpacking from the move back to Texas from Germany.

I have a Victorinox I bought in Germany in the early 80s when I was stationed there. I don't carry but have it on my dresser. It is missing the tweezers (i think that is what I lost 30 some odd years ago!).

I have the biggest one they make. My mom traveled to switzerland and brought me one back in the mid to late eighties with the my name on it. Pretty cool knife still use it from time to time. Would like to send it in and get it cleaned/adjusted/sharpened etc.

Out of curiosity I visited their website and evidently I don't have the biggest one they make. Will have to dig it out and see what it actually is.

It's all I carried up u til I started carrying Leatherman multitool. The Victorinox steel was and still is superior for holding a good edge to me. I have several including one of the biggest ones they make but I don't carry it much at all due to size.

I've got one in my pocket right now. I cherish it because was a gift from a Swiss friend. I use the scissors and smaller knife blade all of the time. Other tools, such as the corkscrew, are never used.

All I carry is a Classic (tiny one with just a blade, file, and scissors) I probably have a dozen or more at any given time.

Does 99.9% of what I need.

I have them scattered around my house.

In May, there was a Victornox store a couple of blocks away from my hotel in Cologne, it was hard to leave there without dropping a lot of money on things I don't need.

I bought a pair of nail clippers there! Best I've ever owned!

I got a victorinox "farmer" for my 5th birthday.. Wore it on a string around my neck and tried to take it to my first day of 1st grade. Cut myself every time I opened the awl. Broke the tip off in my teens and sent it in but the replacement had the cross in a shield, when mine just had the cross. That one eventually got lost in the aftermath of a car crash. Have a couple escort and classic floating around as well as some wenger equivalents, and a huntsman (?) in my survival kit. Seldom carry one though with the convenience of one hand pocket clip knives and better function of a leatherman

Can I ask where you lived in Germany? We lived there for a while.

Had several as a kid and always thought they were the coolest thing. It felt like you go into the wilderness armed with that and figure things out.

My son's a cub scout now and he got one last year as a Bear. Of course I bought him a swiss army knife. It was the best Christmas gift he has ever received. He cut the tape for everybody at Christmas on their boxes and carries it with him at all times (except school).

His affection for the knife has rekindled mine. Luckily, my parents kept a box of a bunch of my old scout stuff and in it was my old swiss army knife. Now we both carry them around to screw in flat head screws, cut loose strings on clothes, imagine we could saw logs for a survival cabin, and promise ourselves we'll learn how to use the little hole on the tool nobody knows how to use (the awl). I love it. I have several pocket knives that are sharper and I keep those on hand for many tasks, but the swiss army knife is always at the ready. Because none of them have a corkscrew and bottle opener on them.

I don't remember much from a trip to EU in 2000, but we were at some store in either Germany or Austria and were told the White Swiss Army Knives are not for export, or something like that. No clue if that is true, but I have one somewhere.

Got my first in Switzerland around 2014 and fell in love with it. Went back in 2017 and picked up a Ranger 75. Thought I lost that one for about a month and was sick. I bought a new Ranger 75 and found the lost one a few weeks later, so now I have 2.

So much more handy than just a knife. I probably use the flathead most followed by the blade then the tweezers. I've used the saw a surprising amount too and it does a bangup job on small diameter PVC if you've only got a few cuts to make.

You were further east than us. We lived between Bitburg and Prum, basically on the western portion of the Eifel Mountains, which is also the eastern edge of the Ardennes. Basically about 26 miles from Belgium, or about 50 miles to Malmedy, and about the same to Bastogne. It was (probably still is) a beautiful area, and we really enjoyed living there.

LOVE these things. Been carrying them for over 25 years now. This is my current I carry. I swear I use the scissors more than a blade over the years. So thin and unassuming on a keychain. I don't always have my actual pocket knife on me as I wear athletic shorts a lot but I ALWAYS have my keys on me.

All this Swiss Army Knife talk and no appreciation for the man who did more for sales of that product than anyone in the history of the world?! Shame on you TexAgs. Shame!

MacGyver could be trapped at the bottom of the ocean in a submarine filled with cobras and you just knew when he pulled out that Swiss Army Knife he was gonna make sh*t happen and get outta that jam.

Haha... He is why I wanted my first one. I think I was like 12 or so when I got it.

I like the Victorinox floral knife. Sounds gay, but it's a handy knife for under $20. No spy tools though.

I have a Victorinox that I have had for many years. It has "camping" on the side so I assume that is the style. It also has a nice leather case that goes on your belt.
Also have a small China knockoff that has a blade, file and scissors.

My brother used to hunt with Elroy Penshorn from Penshorn's Meat Market in Marion and swears that Elroy field dressed an entire deer with one of the little tiny classic Swiss Army knives one time. Said he did it in no time.

For those that have sent theirs in for overhaul, what was the website/link? I can't find it on Victorinox's website. Also, cost and lead time? My Champ could really use some work.

Back in '65 when Dad married Mom, my sister and me he brought some really cool stuff with him. Korea war era Alaska service and winter survival gear was really impressive especially to a 5 yo boy. Wolf parka and mittens were really neat but he had a bone handled Swiss Army Knife with all the gadgets. Over the years I guess that I probably hauled it off and lost it, who knows.
I've looked all over to try and purchase one to replace it just because .
I'm wondering now if maybe it came from his brother a bomber pilot in first wave to land in Tokyo at end of WWII.
Anybody have any thoughts on this knife?

I have a Swiss Champ that I bought in a PX in Okinawa back in 2009.

I saved up ($100) and bought one when I was about 10 years old and then left it on the front seat of my Dad's van when I went into a bicycle shop later that day. Some asswipe stole it while I was in there. Very disappointing! Bought the replacement above in my late twenties. Lesson learned!

Wish I would have gone knife shopping when I was in Switzerland.

I was deployed alongside the Swiss army. One of my friends I made gave me their issued Swiss Army knife. I've always thought it was cool. I bought some and included in my groomsman gifts when I got married.
