To add to the above, whenever I've installed in Austin, SA, and Houston, the carriers may request a final invoice, certificate of completion, or possibly completed roof photos. I've had to provide one or a couple of these to certain carriers in Texas for depreciation release if it's a claim, or just proof of replacement if it's out of pocket.
Also, make sure your chosen roofer is using a current Class III or IV shingle and provides you or your carrier the certification if your carrier offers an impact resistant premium discount (ask your insurance). I advise roofer/you snap a picture of the shingle tag with brand, style, and manufacturer date just in case the carrier tries to get squirrelly. It can come in handy in the future too.
Both of these were already covered by Shalackin but it bears repeating. All of the quality architectural shingles now carry CLASS III certifications…Certainteed Landmark, IKO Dynasty, GAF Timberline HDZ, Owens Corning Duration…..no reasons not to have one and no upcharges should be incurred for them.
