Heard a rumor that with this mild front coming in, the dove have pushed out of Hondo. We were headed down that way this evening for a weekend hunt. Any truth to the rumors?

Don't know about hondo but I saw about 50 of them in Paige yesterday afternoon while taking the trash to the end of my driveway.

The dove hunting there hasnt been great this year, and no one knows why. Drought/lack of watering spots could be a reason.

Hunted there last weekend. We shot some birds but no one approached a limit.

Still had a great time with my friends.

Had good hunts Sun thru Tuesday near Hebronville and high school kids had a good teal and dove hunt on my place yesterday near Huffman before the North wind picked up.
I see very few doves here this morning. I always expect a strong sustained north wind to push the doves Out this time of the year. Not sure where they wind up. I'm really surprised they stayed in our area this long into September.

Hunted south of Yancey last week. Very few.

Murdered them in the Sabinal/Uvalde area a couple weeks ago

I hunted the southside of Hondo each Friday of the special white wing season. Saw LOTS of birds and limited both days. The word is that in the last few years, all of the local birds have moved south of Hwy 90.

I don't think the fronts affect the white wings there since they are mainly local, unless there is rain that spreads them out from their typical designated watering holes.

I will be down there again tomorrow, and we shall see how it goes.

Uvalde is covered in birds

We tore them up last weekend in Bee County. I had a limit within an hour or so and could have filled out my three brothers and wife's limit if I was less scrupulous.

The strange thing was the number of white wings. I typically have all mourning dove with one or two white wings. This year was almost half white wings.

TTHA's Horace Gore used to pontificate than when the birds "moved on" they actually "moved out" as in out in hunter's coolers! I'd wager the majority of doves are killed opening weekend, so makes sense you'll see less as the season moves on.

We were supposed to go on a weekend long trip in Tilden with an outfitter this weekend, but the outfitter called to give us a heads up that there were basically no birds. Bummer but pretty nice on the outfitter 's part. He did say something about having hunters there this week that were kind of pissed so I'm assuming they had birds up until a couple of days ago.

We hunted near Freer evening of 13th and morning of 14th. There were quite a few birds and lots of shooting on neighboring places. We went back and hunted the 19-20 and there were far fewer birds around.

Talked to a guy a couple days ago. He said he had hunters on a place he manages near Encinal on the 19-20. He reported very few birds as well, all the way up through Dilley.

I live out in Quihi. A few miles north of Castroville/Hondo. My neighbor has ~300 acre cornfield that is usually harvested a few weeks before opening day. Typically dove swarming everywhere in the past years. Not much action at all out here this season.

Great hunts yesterday and today south of Falfurrias. They're definitely migrating though. Wouldn't surprise me if they'd left the Hondo area already.

Still got doves in Rio Medina. But, they stick around pretty much all year.

I'm hoping to go this evening but i'm in Central Texas. We'll see if the front brought any birds. I don't think it got cool enough.

We ended up finding a spot in Kinippa. Evenings were definitely better than morning, but at least we had some birds. Had 3 of the 5 hunters get their limits, and I was just a few shy of my limit, which I would have had if I was a better shot. I scared the heck out of a lot of birds, though.

Plenty of birds in Brownwood area - we had limits both Friday and Saturday.
