I can't find anything definitive, but does anyone know if they will be open?

The CoE web sites don't say they will close, I don't see any news stories claiming they will close. Recreation.gov has not sent an email canceling my reservation, and their web site appears to be taking new reservations.

I've seen some implications they will be open, but nothing definite.

So it looks like we are good to go, but if anyone knows for certain, I'd appreciate a heads up.

This isn't a Democrat run administration that will try to maximize the pressure by maximizing public impact. It is a conservative administration that will try to maximize availability of public services with minimal resources and this particular administration will all but dare public employees to give them a reason for force reductions.

The usual level of spiteful shut downs won't happen this time.
I don't want this to get overly political but that is pretty much the objective view of how this plays out.

I think "spiteful shutdown" is a good description of how it happened in the past.

And I agree, the current administration is less likely to do things like block public monuments, or block state highway overlooks of Mount Rushmore.

That being said, a lot of career government employees want to "resist" an administration they dislike, so you are likely to get malicious compliance on a lower level.

The parks staff were asking to close. Claiming public safety was diminished if they were not fully staffed.
But from what I've seen, no response was received.

When Googling this shut down, an article popped up that claimed that Joshua Tree monument was heavily damaged during a long shut down in the past. Joshua trees cut down, campground locks cut off, new roads made through wilderness.

Maybe that happened, maybe not.

I could definitely see that happening. I know last year in Death Valley, a person in a rented SUV was off roading in a sensitive area and got stuck. Stupid people do stupid things. Even more so when there is no one around to stop them.

What do you expect when you put a national park in California?

We've got tickets to ride the train from Williams to the South Rim at the GC on Friday. I called this morning and was told we are still good to go.

For what it's worth, I have reservations at the CoE part of Lake Somerville for Saturday-Sunday (BTHO Miss St) and was able to get through on the phone just now.

She said they are still operating as normal until they hear otherwise, but she said that if they get notice to close, campers would have 72 hours notice to vacate.

I'm with COE Galveston. We are still working but were told that could change any day. I know that doesn't help much but it's all I got.

What got closed during Trumps first administration. Might be the same now.

Update: Stayed at Hords Creek (Coleman) currently at Live Oak (Lake Belton) both are CoE parks.

Some winter campground closures, but no Shutdown closures, and no closures announced.

I love state parks, but the CoE parks are really nice and well maintained.

Had a nice bonus at Hords. We were biking the roads through the campgrounds and came to a closed gate, where they had closed off most of the south side of the lake and about 2/3 of the campgrounds for the winter.

We were turning around when a park ranger drove up, and opened the gate for us. He allowed us to bike through miles of roads with no other traffic but the deer.

It was very nice

Currently camping at Great Sand Dunes NP and the campground is full. Volunteers working and immediately checked us in at our site. Seems pretty normal to us unlike Big Bend being completely shut down under the Clinton administration.
