Avitrol is a neurotoxin that is fed as grain to birds that causes them to have seizures, convulsions and pain which causes them to squawk, thinking it drives the others away from fear. However, in some species, the distress call usually brings more. It leads to death. Bottom line it's a poison that kills them. It's a controlled pesticide.
It is fed as grain so it actually attracts birds to kill them. It is non species specific. Birds often fly away and can die and be consumed by other wildlife and predator birds.
There are a lot better ways to deter birds than using products like this.
Our song bird populations are declining rapidly and without birds to control insect populations we are going to have much worse problems in the future.
There is oftentimes a need to deter nuisance animals and birds but we can do it without eradicating the wildlife. ( Unless it's hogs or rats)
