I just view it as taking a reliable rifle and making it more functional than just 12 hours of the day.

Lever guns are neat because they have the quiet action of a bolt action, but much faster follow up shots.

While not "modernized" in the sense of the stock and fore end, this .22 Henry with a modern red dot is my fav for this sort of thing.

Yep, suppressed lever guns are awesome.

Teddy Roosevelt had one. A man ahead of his time.

Calling something ugly as a horses ass isn't hand wringing. It's just telling the truth. It's an ugly gun.

It like you took a decent looking brunette, died her hair blonde and gave her fake tits. It's just not the same.

Words have specific meaning. Truth is objective fact. Your opinion about how "pretty" a tool is or is not is a subjective opinion.

Your analogy also falls flat here because its dishonest. If I had posted a picture of that Henry X in stock form before I had done a single thing to it, you would have thrown the same hissy fit and called it ugly, because it had synthetic furniture and was made after 1959. You wouldn't have called it a decent looking gun. You would have whined about it like you've whined about any gun you don't personally subjectively like for the last 15 years that I've been on this board.

Thank you for sharing your subjective opinion. Crapping all over threads calling a gun someone else owns ugly is a weird hobby to have, but its one you're certainly dedicated yourself to, so I'll see you in the next one. Cheers!

If I'm hunting with the rifle. Needing/wanting a level action in rough country, then I'm absolutely going with the lightest, most weather-resistant option I can find.

If I was in bear country and my life depended upon a reliable 45-70, you can bet I'd do everything I could to modernize and lighten the platform so I could have it with me at all times.

I get it. I also have some decades old .22lr lever guns I will never modify. Both can be true.

I had a customer give me a gold plated lever action 30/30 about 15 years ago - have never even shot it, just sits in the gun case collecting dust. I thought it was a Henry but to be honest I'm not even sure what it is

So Bender starts a thread by posting a picture of a before and after of a Henry Big Boy being heavily modified to make it a lever action tactical weapon that he can hang and mount all kinds of accessories on.
People then respond. Some positive comments, some critical comments….and some purely fun comments.
Then a poster slams folks on the thread saying no one knows about hunting hogs with "nods" (night vision).
Bender then responds to that guy saying he posted the pictures and waited to see what responses he would get and gets butt hurt that not everyone was enamored with his build and then calls posters that don't like his gun "Granny's" and "knitters" and tells everyone his reasons for modifying the gun in detail.
If you're going to post anything on a public forum you are going to get likes and dislikes….that should be expected. We see this often on the OB whether it's favorite, calibers, cartridges, dog breeds, fishing equipment, deer blinds, deer feeders, ATV's, tractors, and the list goes on and on.
Opinions are like butt holes, everybody has one, and all have a right to express them. It's a given that you can't be thin skinned on TA or you will be disappointed greatly.
Whether a firearm is attractive or ugly is totally up to the person looking at it…..just like a woman or car or anything else. Just look at the gun below. Most of us on here would say it's butt ugly. However they are very collectible and lots of folks like them…and it's amazing what they are worth.
So, bottom line, to each his own. The old cliche of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is demonstrated here. You can't get upset if someone doesn't like your particular thing.

Ehh, just making an already ugly gun a little uglier. But quieter.

Plus, it's also Bender - dude loves him some fugly and weird stuff to begin with. He's a kinda dorky anyway, this is 100% right up his alley and nobody here should be surprised. Probably fun to shoot, especially in the dark where you can't see it.

Kinda like taking a 3 or 4 home when the lights come on at the Chicken or the Hall back in they day. You weren't proud of it, but that never stopped you either because you were still going to end up happy.

Are you using AI to help you summarize things, Gunny? The syntax in that post was a little weird.

Look, I knew I would get negative responses. That's why the thread is titled the way it is. Many of them, like deerdude, gatos and thunderclaps were funny. I genuinely laughed, and the knitting comments were made in the same spirit. Calling my knitting response to their comments butthurt is missing the mark, big time. My comments were made in the same spirit as theirs. Modern lever guns are a real love/hate kind of build, which I knew and expected.

Agalaska and I have very different taste in guns. Which is also fine. It makes it really funny that he's hunting with an AR this year after years of smack talking them too, but anyway.

There is a difference between making humorous comments and ribbing, which I fully expected and do not mind at all, and agalaskas inability to pass by a thread on a modern gun without calling it an ugly piece of ***** Not even being creative with it, just name calling. It's been his MO for years, and he can do what he wants...I'm not disputing that. I'm also free to call that behavior lame, which it is.

No AI used sir. I'm to dumb for that. Glad you cleared that up that you weren't upset when you made those comments and that they were purely meant to be lighthearted. From some of the responses given after them I don't think they were necessarily taken that way….so that's good to know.
I think all comments and responses have been of a fun and lighthearted nature.
Thats the issue with words posted on forums as they can be misconstrued right?
Anyway I will say I enjoy seeing any pictures of firearms…old or new, cause, like I said in another post above, I just like guns. Even ugly ones.

His favorite long arm was the Winchester 1895. I saw what looks like to be the same suppressor on a 1895 he supposedly owned at the Cody Firearms Museum a long time ago. Wonder if he used the same one or had more than one?

Is that the 1x prismatic?

I tried a spare 3x I had laying around and the eye relief didnt work for me.

Correct sir, it's 1x. I have a little 3x flip away magnifier for it and honestly, I'm not a big fan. I have a similar one on an AR and that's where I had the magnifier. Just not a huge fan. Love it as a 1x though. Has a great little semi-circular with chevron reticle, some drop compensation lines calibrated for 5.56 (obviously not particularly useful in this application but with some practice I might be able to use one or two as reference points.)

All in all it's a quality little prismatic.

If I could post pictures, I could out ugly Bender's gun and those so offended could be offended even harder.

One cheap made in Turkey 1892 clone with the tacti-cool rails and a wood stock. Add one cheap giant scout scope from Amazon that probably out weighs the gun itself.

And just for fun added a slip on neoprene pad for the stock. (In my defense, my shoulder was black and blue from shooting a bunch of 8mm Mauser prior to putting on the pad....but I did leave it on)

I'll swap the scope for a dot at some point, and the pad isn't necessary, but the ugly gun might be the most fun gun in my case.
