Looking to purchase a new gun safe. Needing to get something larger to fit the growing family.

Good brands? Ones to stay away from? Wanting to stay away from the key pad lock for a more traditional dial I think.

I have 3/0 doors everywhere so not worried about fitting through a door.

Literally was offered a super nice Liberty gunsafe this morning as I am trying to sell raffle tickets for guns. Where are you located or would you come to CS to get the safe?

Locks can be changed, fairly easily.

Just swapped one on mine this last year because it hiccuped on me twice and I didn't want to take any chances of it failing. It was 13 years old.

My suggestion is to buy the highest level fire protection you can afford in the size you want. If that safe doesn't have the lock you want, just buy a replacement lock. Then keep the original as a backup.

Liberty Colonial 30 like new. $2000 to Texags buyer. $1000 under from what he tells me.

Check out sturdy safes. Excellent fire rating if you want to go that route. American made, can customize interior if you'd like. One of best purchases I ever made.

I've always liked liberty with a manual dial. A dealer can order whatever you want.

Get the biggest one that'll fit in the space and doors. I got one specifically for a closet in my old house and now wish I had a larger one.

I really REALLY like my Winchester safe. Made in Ft Worth, super high quality, nice design - and their customer service is great. I accidently broke the battery compartment on the electric lock and they overnighted me a new one at no charge

Pendleton's are great

A locksmith recommended checking out Hollon Safes in Corpus Christi. Might be an option, but I do not have any experience with them.

I'd look at Browning/Prosteel. Price to quality is about as good as it gets. Light stops working...they send you a new kit no questions asked. Keypad has a loose battery compartment....new one is sent out without any issue. Safes are safes for the most part unless you are on the upper end, and even those all use the same electronics. So get quality there.

Safes are like deer rifles....you can spend $10,000 or $800 and both will work fine, but each have particular reasons for pricing. 120 minute fire rating is going to be more expensive than 30 minute. Amount of steel dictates the rest. So, you need to decide what you want out of a safe.

Do you live in urban Chicago where your guns can be stolen and house burned to the ground? You need to look at $15,000+ dollar safes.

Do you live in Dimebox with 8 dogs in the house? You need to look at Liberty or anything with SG electronics on it.

Either way, do not get caught up in the endless mental loop of "more expensive means more secure".

Anyone know what happened to Kingsberry Mfg. out of Crystal City Texas? They made a good safe (I have one) but think they have sold/gone out of business. The phone # doesn't ring.

Curious why everyone says "they wish they had bought a bigger safe?"

Any reason you cannot buy a second one when you fill the first one up?

Because we have a lot of guns and we want more guns and it's easier to put more guns in a bigger safe.

But seriously, it fills up quick, so buy more than you need.

Don't buy a safe like TXDOT builds roads…buy for the future growth not the current capacity.
